Johnnie J. "Pete" Walker, Sr., long time Cushing resident, 91 died Monday.
The son of the late Percy Walker and Mandy Birdsell Walker, Johnnie was born Jan. 15, 1914 in Collinsville, Okla. then moved to Cushing where he graduated from Cushing High School with the class of 1934.
United in marriage to Eva Mae Smith on Aug. 27, 1935 in Pawnee, Okla.; Eva preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 1997. To this union three children, Johnnie Jr., JoAnn and Finus, were born.
He worked as a bellhop at the Cushing Hotel, later moving to California working at Bethlehem Steel until 1948. He then returned to Cushing and ran a laundromat from 1948 to 1950. In 1950, he went to work for City Light Plant, becoming the superintendent until retiring in 1975.
He enjoyed feeding birds; fishing and traveling down the highway. He attended the First Baptist Church of Agra.
Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn Poteet and her husband James of Agra; one son, Johnnie Walker Jr. and his wife Erlene of Tulsa; six grandchildren, James D Poteet and his wife Dawn of Tryon, Debbie Cooper and her husband Chris of Cushing, Michial Poteet and his wife Judy of Agra, Shereen Bradley and her husband John of California, Johnnie Jack III and his wife Holly of Tulsa and Timothy Walker of New Orleans; eleven great grandchildren, Anihtra Watkins and her husband Brandon, Jameson Poteet and his wife Natasha, Chrissy Whitten and her husband Michael, Jarrod Cooper and his wife Kristen, Kaylee Cooper, Michial Poteet Jr. and his wife Jenea', Michelle Beck, Raymond Ackermann, Joseph Walker, Johnnie Jack IV and Josh Walker; eight great great-grandchildren, Hunter Watkins, Annelise Watkins, Chadwick James Poteet, Cali Ann Cooper, Caleb James Cooper, Alyssa Marie Beck, Casey Mae Beck and Audrey Beck; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by son, Finus Walker and grandson, Jeffrey J Walker.
Graveside services - Wednesday at 2 p.m.. in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park with Forrest Fuqua officiating.
