Sept. 7, 1941 - Feb. 15, 2005

The daughter of Cleo and Velma Oliver Wright, Karen was born in Oklahoma City and graduatedCushing High School with the class of 1958.

She was married to John Hilyard and to this union two daughters, Diane and Brenda, and one son Doug were born. She was later married to Rick Reiley on Sept. 9, 1980 and gained another daughter, Shannon.

Karen was an antique dealer and a local realtor for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Rick Reiley; three daughters, Diane Brown of Ardmore, Okla., Brenda Hilyard of Nowata, Okla. and Shannon Cromartie of Houston, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Debi Hilyard of Ada, Okla.; six grandchildren, Brent, Brandon, Lauren, Ashley, Blake, and Raven; one sister, Sheila Bergey of King Salmon, AK; one brother, Keith Wright of Edmond; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorial services are planned for Saturday, at 2 p.m. in the Cushing Community Theatre, under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home, Cushing.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the hospice of your choice in her memory.

May 13, 1947 - March 29, 2005

Carl Edward Tarver died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the age of 57 years.
Born on on May 13, 1947 in Cushing to Ray Carl Tarver and Juanita Lathrop Tarver,Carl and was reared and educated here, graduating from Cushing High School with the class of 1965.

Carl met Linda Peterman at the Tarver Grocery Store and shortly after, on August 15, 1969 the couple was united in marriage, and to this union two children, daughter Tracy Tarver Harnisch and son Reed were born.

Carl worked for Shell Pipeline for 27 years. He loved farming and ranching and he and Linda made a lifelong career out of their ranch west of Cushing. An auctioneer with his "Top Auction Company", he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Carl was very active in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren where he enjoyed putting on his annual calf roast to which the entire community was invited. He had many friends and family and touched numerous lives throughout the community.

Devoted and loving as a husband to Linda and fathe to Tracy and Reed and grandfather to granddaughter, Jamie Dawn Tarver, who was the apple of his eye.

Survivors include his wife of over 35 years, Linda, of the home; his children, Tracy Harnisch and her husband William of Conifer, Colo.; one son, Reed Tarver of Dayton, Ohio; his mother, Juanita Tarver of Ripley; one brother Tom Tarver and his wife Flo, of Ripley; two sisters, Nancy Schlegel and her husband Gary, and Kathy Hanks and her husband Randy, both of Ripley; one grand-daughter Jamie Dawn Tarver; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home Saturday, Apr. 2, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Big Creek Church of the Brethren with Reverend John Holderread, pastor, officiating.

Burial at the Church Yard Cemetery.



Memorial contributions may be made to Carl's granddaughter, via, the Jamie Tarver education fund at Commercial Federal Bank in Cushing or to the Big Creek Church of the Brethren.

Michael Eugene Riley June 28, 1951 ? February 15, 2004

Michael Eugene Riley of La Barge was born on June 28, 1951, to W.J. and Betty Riley in Cushing, Oklahoma. He graduated from Cushing High School on May 27, 1969, where he was very active in school sports.

He attended Oklahoma State University and South Eastern College. where he met Patti Ann Hampson. They married on Feb. 16, 1976 and moved to Casper. From this union was born a daughter, Natalie Nicole Riley, born on Aug. 16, 1984. They later divorced.

Michael enjoyed working in the oilfield and worked for various companies such as Black Hills Trucking, Richardson Trucking, Marmac Trucking, and M&N Equipment.

He met Toni Hale in 1990 and then moved to LaBarge in 1998. He enjoyed diamond jewelry, fireworks, growing tomatoes, home improvements and playing his guitar. He passed away at his home on February 15, 2004. He was preceded in death by his father, W.J. Riley.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Services were held on Friday, Feb. 20, in LaBarge. Interment followed in the Viola Cemetery.

Louotta Cruzan Class of 1932

Former Cushing resident Louotta Cruzan of Houston died Thursday in Houston, Texas. She was 85.

Mrs. Cruzan was born Dec. 18, 1914, in Stroud to Roger Lydick and Iva (Garner) Lydick Foster.

She graduated from Cushing High School in 1932.

She married Melvin Cruzan on Aug. 22, 1932, in Pryor.

Mrs. Cruzan was a homemaker, and a member of Bellaire Christian Church in Bellaire, Texas.

She had lived in Houston, Texas for 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband Melvin Cruzan, Houston, Texas; two sons, Roger Cruzan, Houston, Texas, and Randy Cruzan, LaJunta, Colo.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Stroud with the Rev. Sandy Chace officiating. Burial will be in Stroud Cemetery, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Stroud.

Vergie Lyle

Funeral services for Vergie Lyle, 87, Tecumseh, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Yale with the Rev. Mike Dershem, youth minister for the church, officiating. Burial will follow in Lawson Cemetery. Lyle died Saturday in Shawnee.

She was born April 26, 1914, to William Asa and Pearl Vivian (Ferguson) Smith in Council Valley, Okla.

She attended grade school in Council Valley and graduated from Cushing High School.

On Feb. 27, 1934, she and Thieron "Doc" Lyle were married in Stillwater. He died Jan. 19, 1995.

She had lived in Yale, Laverne and Texas before moving to Tecumseh eight years ago.

Lyle was a member of the Tecumseh Garden Club, a member of the First Baptist Church in Yale and attended the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh.

She is preceded in death by her parents and two brother, Nova Smith and Wayne Smith.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Gayle Lyle, Tecumseh; three brothers, Alvin Smith, Yale, Jay Smith, Cushing, and Herschel Smith, Midwest City; a sister, Mary Peterson, Livermore, Calif., three grandchildren, Paul, Beth and John Lyle, all of Tecumseh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of services.

Alice Maude Apperson Cross, long time Cushing resident, died Thursday, March 31, 2005 in the Cushing Hospital at the age of 80 years.

The daughter of the late William Apperson and Nancy A. Ward Apperson, Alice was born Sept. 17, 1924 in Arkansas City, Kan. and was reared and educated in Cushing.(Class of approximately 1932)

She was united in marriage to Earl Lee Cross on Sept. 5, 1939 and he preceded her in death on June 17, 2002.

Alice had worked as an aid for the Cushing Hospital for several years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church; she enjoyed crocheting, reading, cooking and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Walter Cross and his wife Carol of Stillwater, Theresa Gladden and her husband Bill and Kim Harmon all of Cushing, Don Cross and his wife Anna of Tryon and Robin Cross of Poteet, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one infant son; two sisters, Thelma Myers and Margaret Heston and three brothers, Edward Apperson, William Apperson and Tommy Apperson.

Graveside services Monday, Apr. 4, 2005 at 10 a.m. in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

LuVerne Nell Chase CLASS OF 1930 Cushing High School (Cushing, OK)


March 5, 1913 - March 27, 2005

LuVerne Nell Chase, 92, retired Cushing School teacher, died Sunday in Yukon.

The daughter of the late George A. Dungan and Ethel Taylor Dungan, LuVerne was born on March 5, 1913 in Cushing and was reared and educated in Cushing, graduating from Cushing High School with the class of 1930. She then attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University receiving her B.A. in education. She taught in the Vida Schools near Oilton; the Tidal School near Drumright; the Jackson Junior High in Oklahoma City; the Cushing Middle School and Wilson School in Cushing prior to her retirement, retiring with over 33 years in teaching.

She was united in marriage to Ralph Chase on March 15, 1940, here in Cushing and he preceded her in death on June 15, 1997.

LuVerne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; the Order of the Eastern Star; Kappa Kappa Iola and OCREA. She enjoyed collecting photographs, scrap booking, writing in her journals and the time she spent at the Cove in Yukon.

Survivors include one niece, Dianne Steimle and her husband Bob of Westcliff, Colo.; two nephews, Dale Dungan of Cary, Ill. and Duane Dungan of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Bertha Dungan of Cape Canaveral, Fla., and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyle Clifford Dungan and an infant.

Graveside services in the New Zion Cemetery with The Rev. Tom Stewart, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Johnnie J. "Pete" Walker, Sr., long time Cushing resident, 91 died Monday.

The son of the late Percy Walker and Mandy Birdsell Walker, Johnnie was born Jan. 15, 1914 in Collinsville, Okla. then moved to Cushing where he graduated from Cushing High School with the class of 1934.

United in marriage to Eva Mae Smith on Aug. 27, 1935 in Pawnee, Okla.; Eva preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 1997. To this union three children, Johnnie Jr., JoAnn and Finus, were born.

He worked as a bellhop at the Cushing Hotel, later moving to California working at Bethlehem Steel until 1948. He then returned to Cushing and ran a laundromat from 1948 to 1950. In 1950, he went to work for City Light Plant, becoming the superintendent until retiring in 1975.

He enjoyed feeding birds; fishing and traveling down the highway. He attended the First Baptist Church of Agra.

Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn Poteet and her husband James of Agra; one son, Johnnie Walker Jr. and his wife Erlene of Tulsa; six grandchildren, James D Poteet and his wife Dawn of Tryon, Debbie Cooper and her husband Chris of Cushing, Michial Poteet and his wife Judy of Agra, Shereen Bradley and her husband John of California, Johnnie Jack III and his wife Holly of Tulsa and Timothy Walker of New Orleans; eleven great grandchildren, Anihtra Watkins and her husband Brandon, Jameson Poteet and his wife Natasha, Chrissy Whitten and her husband Michael, Jarrod Cooper and his wife Kristen, Kaylee Cooper, Michial Poteet Jr. and his wife Jenea', Michelle Beck, Raymond Ackermann, Joseph Walker, Johnnie Jack IV and Josh Walker; eight great great-grandchildren, Hunter Watkins, Annelise Watkins, Chadwick James Poteet, Cali Ann Cooper, Caleb James Cooper, Alyssa Marie Beck, Casey Mae Beck and Audrey Beck; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by son, Finus Walker and grandson, Jeffrey J Walker.

Graveside services - Wednesday at 2 p.m.. in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park with Forrest Fuqua officiating.

Cletus Sollars
Longtime Cushing businessman Cletus Sollars, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in Cushing Regional Hospital.
Services, with Dr. Lonny Lee, pastor, presiding, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church in Cushing. Interment will follow in the Euchee Valley
Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Avery, to Riley and Flossie (Titus) Sollars.

He attended grade school at Happy Valley and graduated from Cushing High School with the class of 1941.

He served in the South Pacific as quartermaster with the Army's 84th Division. He was discharged in 1946.

He married Colleen Edwards May 28, 1949, in Drumright. The couple had one son.

The couple spent their first 10 years in Cushing and in Wyoming, working for Shell Pipeline. They returned to Cushing in 1958 where they owned and operated
the Sollars Electric Company for 37 years. The company primarily did oil field electrification in and around Cushing.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1948. He was an ordained
deacon in 1980 and taught high school youth and adult men Sunday school.

He enjoyed farming and working with cattle.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Earl Sollars; and two sisters,
Ella Mae Sollars and Sissie Sollars.

In addition to his wife of more than 53 years, he is survived by one son, Donnie Sollars and his wife Lou Ann of Cushing; a grandson, David Sollars of Cushing;
one brother, Ervin Sollars and his wife Opal of Stillwater; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

George Wilburn "Jeep" Allen, 82, a former Cushing resident, died Friday, January 24, 2003 in Albert Lea, Minn. Private family graveside services
will be held in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Cushing. Pastor John Owen officiated. Services were under the direction of Davis Funeral
Home in Cushing.

Allen was born in Byng on July 25, 1920, to George Landon Allen and Willie (Dickey) Allen.

He married Wilma Dean Morris on Sept. 28, 1945 in Pawnee.

Allen moved to Cushing as a small child and was reared and educated there. He graduated from Cushing High School.

He entered the United States Navy in September 1942 and served as a Gunners Mate, Second Class during World War II.

He was discharged on April 27, 1945 from the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif.

He and his wife made their home in Cushing until 2001, when they moved to Minnesota to be near their daughter.

Allen worked for Shell Pipline for 45 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a charter member of the Oak Street Baptist Church in Cushing.

His parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Wilma, of the home; one son, Kent Allen and his wife, Nancy, of Webb City, Mo.; one daughter, Cheryl Williams and her husband,
Roger, of Albert Lea, Minn.; four grandchildren, Jarae Housley of Seattle, Wash., Stefanie Simpson, Craig Hoagland and Chrissie Hoagland, all of Webb
City, Mo.; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Robb and her husband, Lester, of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends and relatives.

Thelma Syotha Driggs Ward
Longtime Cushing OK resident Thelma Syotha (Driggs)Ward, 83, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in Menifee, Calif. At her request, a private graveside service was held Jan. 27 at the Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Cushing.

Davis Funeral Home, Cushing, directed the arrangements.

She was born in Cushing Aug. 24, 1919, to William W. and Ida Leora (Bailey) Driggs.

She was reared and educated in Cushing.

She married Harless Ward Dec. 7, 1945, in Cushing. He died April 24, 1994.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and three brothers, Calvin, Don and Jonnie.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Wilson of Cushing; three brothers, Ted Driggs of Cushing, Bob Driggs of Tulsa and Billy Joe Driggs of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Wilda Creswell of Cushing; eight grandchildren, 13 great-
grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Michael was my half brother. Although I never met him I think he and I were most alike. I have been abit busy the last 15 years but I was able to talk to him in two seperate conversations in the mid 90's.
