The DaVinci Art Alliance was founded in 1931 by 17 prominent Philadelphia artists. They were all Italian American and decided to name the alliance after the consummate genius of the Italian Renaissance Leonardo DaVinci. The members meetings took place in their studios until several years ago when the alliance acquired the building at 704 Catharine Street. Originally limited to artists of Italian extraction, the organization became completely integrated shortly after WWII and now welcomes all with an interest in the arts. Aside from it's annual all media exhibition that has been continuous since the group's inception the alliance sponsors many art related events throughout the year. DaVinci was the first art group to come forth ten years ago initiating recognition due to people in the Philadelphia area who have contributed greatly to the art world. Awards and testimonial dinners have celebrated many distinguished individuals.
