"Ten Days"

Walking down the street, talking
He appeared from nowhere, with a wink
and a wave.
Seen everyday by the corner;
The scene always the same
Adult intuition strikes
We turn back
Sneaking around the block
late at night
Almost in a daze
And then he appears, but not
From Nowhere.
Somewhere
Long fingers grasp
Reaching out and turning to
an outstretched hand.
Street lights buzzing overhead
Like a multitude of stars, encircled
by a black cloth
Breathe the fresh, crisp air
Feel it in your lungs
Soon it will be gone.
Known only to memories.
