The Pain That Plagues

Why can’t we ever be free

Of the pain that plagues our souls?

We dream our dreams that we never get to see

While we watch them be shot full of holes.

To Hell and back our journeys go,

And we fight it day after day.

If we find help, we never know

How long that help will stay.

Children go hungry from morning till night.

More and more people forlorn.

The hearts of men cringe at each horrid sight,

And the aged sit home and mourn.

War, more war, and rumors of war

Echo in everyone’s ear.

The youth don’t know what to live for

For this life they are taught to fear.

Men who murder for their own selfish gain,

But no punishment do they ever meet.

The world around us is going insane.

Where is the victory when we see only defeat?

A long time ago in a land far away,

Jesus foresaw what we are seeing today.

He took on the pains that give misery

The moment he died on Mount Calvary.

He knows the path our journey takes us through,

For Jesus has been on that path, too.

The pain that plagues the world today

Is as strong as it was back then.

Yet the defeat we know shall not stay

If we let our victory be in him.

The day will come when the pain goes away

And the victory banner is unfurled,

For Jesus our Lord and God does say,

“Fear not. I have overcome the world!”
