Chapter 18- Starting All Over Again

Tay finally had closure with both Hallie and Victoria. Victoria and were starting their relationship over again. She had given him a second chance. And for once, Taylor was perfectly fine with being just friends with Hallie. Today, Taylor and his brothers were recording another song for the CD. The CD had already been pushed back to April 30th, and they couldn’t afford to push it back any more. All three brothers were excited to be back in the studio to continue the process in making a CD. How would today turn out?

“Man, I love this song,” Tay commented as he listened to a piece of the tape.

“Yeah, it is a fantastic song,” agreed Ike.

Today, they were recording a song called, “Hand In Hand.” Tay had written most of it after he had found out about Steven and Hallie. Ike and Zac finished it up a few weeks ago. It was about a girl who had left her boyfriend for another guy, and he’d give anything to get her back. Even though Tay wrote most of it within his own vocal range, Ike sang the lead. Besides, it was yet again, another song that was too personal for Tay to actually sing himself.

Mark turned to Ike after they finished listening to the recording of the first verse, and the chorus, “We need to do that again. You’re too high.”

“I agree,” Tay jumped in.

They had recorded the other verses, and bride already. For the most part of the song, Hanson sang together. But, the first verse was Ike’s solo, and it had to be to perfection.

“Alright, I’ll do it, again,” Ike stated, as he put his headphones back on, and headed back towards the recording part of the studio.

Ike stood in front of the microphone, again, and told Mark, “Ready when you are, Mark.”

Steve Lironi was in the recording studio today, helping out and seeing how the album was coming along. So far, he was definitely pleased with what he heard, and saw coming from Isaac, Taylor, and Zac. He couldn’t wait to make the final touches on the album.

Instead of Mark, who was at the controls, Steve counted Isaac off. Steve cued, “3…2…1, and go!”

As the music, Ike shut his eyes, and sang soulfully, “I know…how much I love you, but there is no time…to explain, I realize…just what I’d give to…get you back…in my arms, and I…see you hand in hand…with another man, and I…don’t know…what you see in him, and why you let us go, so…if you’re gonna lie, at least you could…just let us die, and if you’re gonna…cry to me, baby, at least you could…just say good-bye…

With a “click”, the tape stopped recording Ike, and his voice. Tay was glad that they stopped, too. The lyrics really got to him. But, Hallie and he were only friends, and he was cool with that. It was just the experience that was painful to him.

Ike walked back into the control room, and smiled, as he said, “Alright, play that back. Let’s see how it sounds.”

As the tape played both Tay and Zac agreed in unison, “That sounds better.”

“Definitely,” Ike nodded. He, too noticed the difference the quality of the sound.

Mr. Hanson grabbed the keys to the van, and little Zoë, Alright, guys, it’s your break. Let’s go grab something to eat.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Hanson family came back early. They still had a decent fifteen minutes before they had to get back to work. Mr. Hanson dropped off the boys, and told them that he’d be back at 6 to pick them up, when the session ended.
The boys were sitting in the control room, conversing with Mark and Steven about the record. In the background they were playing their rough edged recordings of “Hand In Hand" that they had done so far. What a song!
“This is really coming along smoothly, guys. I’m really impressed,” Steve congratulated the three brothers.
“So far,” Mark jumped in, “the CD is scheduled to be released late April, maybe even early May. We don’t wanna push it back anymore. The fans are all like, suffering from anxiety attacks waiting for the CD to come out because it keeps getting pushed back.”
Zac laughed, “Well, just as long as we haven’t hospitalized anyone, yet…I think we’re good.”
“True, very true.”
“Also, I would like to add that your photo shoot for the CD is scheduled to be in a couple of months, so I hope you guys aren’t planning on making any major changes to your looks,” Steve explained to the boys.
“Nope, not yet,” Ike shook his head in doubt he’d do anything.
“Me neither,” Tay assured Steve and Mark.
“I’m gonna let my hair grow a little longer,” Zac informed everyone. “It’s not too much of a change, believe me.”
“That’s fine, Zac,” Mark said, turning to Zac.
“Well, we better get back to work, guys, in like five minutes,” Mark glanced at his watch.
“Hey, Mark? Where are we going to mix the CD after it’s done?” asked Taylor, curiously. As he asked Mark, he jumped up onto what he thought was an empty spot on the control panel.
“We’re going to mix in Flor-,” started Mark, then seeing what Tay was doing, yelled, “Tay, don’t!
But, it was too late. The second Tay landed on the control panel, he hit hundreds of buttons. The buttons caused so many things to happen at once that the panel went into overload. And then, the worst possibly thing that could happy while recording, happened.
POP! BAM!” were the sounds that came from the section that had the tape on it. The demo of “Hand In Hand” became unwound, and all knotted. Just in looking at it, they knew there was no way to save it. They had to re-record the song, even after perfecting it for two hours.
Tay stared at the destroyed demo in awe, “I-i…t-there’s just…no way that…h-happened!
The sixteen-year-old Hanson was at a loss for words, and wasn’t quite sure what to say, except for, “I’m so sorry!!”
“Tay, you’re such an ass!” Ike rolled his eyes, at his brother’s stupidity. He always knew that his brother was accident prone, but this just named him the King of Mistakes.
“That will definitely,” Zac couldn’t take his eyes off the tape, “push back the CD release.”
“Yep,” Steve Lironi reassured him of that.
“On second thought,” Mark told the group, “I think we should get back to work…now.”
