Chapter 20-Driver's Ed

Taylor was kind of nervous today. Today, he had his driver's license test. His mom was more worried than he was, yet another Hanson sibling out on the road. It could be dangerous to trust Taylor behind the wheel of a car. But, he had done well with his permit so, maybe there was nothing to worry about. Taylor had been relieved and a little bit more relaxed about driving since he felt like he didn't have to watch his back, anymore. Steven and his friends had started to leave him alone and forget about him. Now, Taylor didn't have to worried about being followed in his car. Yet, there was still the question: Would Taylor actually pass his driving test? Or would his anxiety overcome him and Tay would leave without a license? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Taylor sat nervously in the driver's license office, waiting for his turn to be called. Deep down, Taylor was full of anxiety about taking his test. He didn't show it to his brothers or anyone else in the family, but Tay truly wondered if he would pass.

"I wonder if I'll pass," he thought, to himself. "Shane's an excellent driver, and he didn't pass last week."

Taylor was only paranoid, and he knew it. In his mind, he was only making up excuses of why he wouldn't pass. He knew that his ridiculous reasons were completely just more reasons for him to feel nervous about the test. Last year, he saw how nervous Ike was, in fact he was worse than Tay, But, Ike passed, didn't he? There was nothing to worry about.

"Taylor Hanson," called a woman from behind the counter.

The middle Hanson rose from his chair and walked over to the counter, "Yes, ma'am?"

She gave him a gorgeous, bright smile, "Well, you passed your sight test with flying colors. Are you ready for the driving test now...um..."

"Taylor."

"Taylor," she giggled, at her slight mistake, "are you ready for your driving test?"

Taylor took a deep breath, and sighed, "As ready as I'll ever be, ma'am."

"Alright, follow me, then," she commanded Taylor, as she began to walk toward the backdoor.

As Taylor walked throught the open door, he couldn't help, but to think, "Okay, this is it. It's now...or never."

"Right this way, Taylor. We'll be driving in a Volvo S70 today. Are you familiar with this type of car?" she questioned.

They both walked towards the car iin what seemed to be like slow motion, "Yeah, my friend's mom has an S70. It's a nice car."

Taylor cautiously opened the driver's side door and got in. He waited till the tester got in the car to tell he, "Buckle up."

They both put on their seat belts and were ready for the ride, "Alright, here it goes."

He turned on the car, and slowly backed out of the parking space, starting his driver's license test. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Yeah, I know, Kat. I can't believe he's actually getting his license," Ike was talking to Kat, discussing about Tay and how he'd hopefully pass the test.

"Do you think Tay'll pass, Ikey-poohs?" Kat asked.

With little doubt in his voice, Ike responded, "Yeah, I'm pretty sure that he'll pass. I mean, if I can pass it, I think that he can. He's a much better driver than I am."

Kat laughed, "Isaac, you're an excellent driver! You're a lot better than I'll ever be!"

Ike smiled, "Thanks, Kat."

"Anyway though, what are you doin' today?"

"Waiting for Taylor to get home because I wanna know how he did on the test. How about you?" Isaac hoped she'd say 'nothing' because he wanted to see her.

"Absolutely...nothing!" Kat told him. "Hey, do you need any company today?"

"Yes!" thought Ike, then said aloud, "Sure, come on over and we'll chill while waiting for Jordy."

Kat laughed, "Jordy" was her and Ike's little nickname for Taylor. They called him "Jordy" when they were in the mood for making fun of him. Tay hated to be called that, and it drove him nuts! So, the more he hated it, the more they called him it.

"Well," Kat began, "I'll be over in like, 2 hours, okay?"

"Two hours?" Isaac's eyebrows raised, at the extremely long length of time. He expected more like, two minutes. "Why so long?"

"I gotta take a shower, and dry my hair, then put on my make up, then I-"

"Okay, okay I get the picture," he interrupted, laughing. "So, I guess I'll see you in two hours, huh?"

"Yep!"

"Alright, see you, then. Love you, babe!" Isaac said.

"Love you, too! Buh-bye!" she concluded. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yet again, Taylor was back in the waiting room, awaiting the results of his driving test. Did he pass?

"Taylor?" called the same lady from behind the counter.

"Yes?" he dashed to the counter, eagerly.

She smiled, "I have the results to your driving test."

"And?"

"You did...," all of a sudden, she hesitated, making the suspense unbearable for Taylor.

"Oh my gosh!" Tay thought, to himself. "I failed! I know I did!"

"...very nice!" the lady continued. "A+ for you, Taylor Hanson."

"No way!" Taylor screamed, with utter shock and excitement. "You serious?"

"Yep, walk this way, please."

Taylor followed the lady into a room to get him picture taken, as he thought, "I can't believe I passed!"

He sat down on a chair that was placed in front of a huge camera, next to a computer.

"How tall are you?" she asked, typing away at the keyboard.

"5'10," Taylor told her with the brightest smile on his face.

The lady began to type, again. Then, she turned to the camera, and Taylor, "Alright, smile really big."

Tay gave her, his best smile.

"FLASH!"

The camera had taken a very happy picture of Taylor Hanson.

"Okay," said the lady, "give e five minutes to process your license, okay?"

"Okay, no problem," Tay smiled. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The drive home for Taylor was fantastic. He felt the brisk wind blowing in his hair, his favorite song was on the radio, and with his license, Taylor felt a certain kind of power he had never felt before. He felt...invinsible.

"I can't believe that I actually passed," was all that went through Tay's mind. "Wait! I forgot to call Ike and tell him the good news!"

Tay brought his mom's cellphone along for the ride, so if he passed he could tell Isaac right away.

Stopping at a red light, Tay dialed home. The phone rang and rang, but no one picked up.

"C'mon! I know you're home, Ike!" Tay said to himself, thinking aloud.

Suddenly, someone answered, "Hello?"

"Hey, it's me!"

"Oh my gosh! Did you pass?!" Ike asked, eagerly.

With a smile, Tay screamed, "Hell yeah!"

Happy for his brother, Isaac responded, "Alright! That's awesome!"

"Well, I'm almost home. So, I'll talk to you when I get home. By the way, what took you so long to answer the phone?" Tay asked, curiously.

"Kat's over," was the only response that Tay received form his older brother, Isaac.

Tay snickered, "Ohhh...I understand..."

Isaac laughed, "No, it's not like that..."

"Whatever you say, I'll see you when I get home," with that, Tay hung up the cellphone. He couldn't wait to get home and talk to his brother, Isaac. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tay pulled down his street, proudly. He finally had his license and couldn't wait to tell all of his friends.

Taylor took a sharp turn into his driveway and pulled up slowly.

"Hey...TAY!"

Startled by the voice, Tay turned his head and didn't watch where he was going.

"CRASH!"

He had hit the garage door, and had dented the front of the car. He dented the front of the car. On the first few hours of having his license.

Walking up to Tay, laughing, Ike commentws, "That was really smooth, Tay."

"Shutup! You caused it!"

"You're the driver," his brother reminded him.

Tay sighed.

"I still can't believe you did that," Isaac said, amazed and putting his arm around his brother.

"You startled me," Tay said. "Damnit, Mom and Dad are going to kill me."

"Hey, you have my deepest empathy. Remember when I crashed last year? I did almost the identical thing," Ike recollected.

"Yeah," Tay laughed. "Guess it runs in the family, huh?"

"Yep, it's a Hanson family trait."

"Man," tay whined, "my ass is so freakin' dead!"

"Tay?"

"Yeah, Ike?"

"Your ass was dead the second you left for your test," Ike snickered.

"Shutup," Tay hit Ike, softly. "I'm going to seriously pay for this. I know I will..."
