NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 1990

  • Directed by: Tom Savini
  • Written by: George A. Romero
  • Produced by: John A. Russo Razor. An updated version of Night Of The Living Dead caught my eye at a suncoast were I lived. And it looked really cool so I hand to get my hands on it. I bought it. Im not the kind of guy that worries if the movie is gonna suck. I have to get it to fill my collection. Good thing that was the last tape they had for a month. I know ..."What?...a month."..yup. Suncoast was on backorder. When I saw the film I was satisfied. As a writer I thought George Romero wrote a terrific script and was determined to write a 2000 remake to Dawn of The Dead. Although that failed when my agent told me to stick it in my ass. I fired him. Now Im looking for a new agent. I have tossed my script of Dawn of the Dead 2000 because Im working on many screenplays. Well enough with my bullshit and on to the story. This is pretty much the same story as NOTLD 68, but with better effects and a few new twists. The recent dead have returned to life and now seek the flesh of the living. Seven strangers are trapped in an isolated farmhouse struggling with the horror that awaits them on the outside and the tension that will eventually destroy them on the inside. Romero re-introduces all our favorite character: Ben (Tony Todd), Cooper (Tom Towles)(from Henry), and so on. There are even striking reminiscences between the cast in 68 and 90, and that wasn't a coincidence. Barbara (Patricia Tallmen) has been miraculously been transformed from a comatose broad into a female Rambo. She seemingly being the only one with any grasp of the situation and this time she not waiting for Johnny. Not overly gory, Although I saw deleted scene's that would have helped and boke the movie. But the zombie make-up was fantastic. The twists breath new life into this classic movie. Tom Savini did an exceptional job in his big screen directorial debut and maybe someday we'll be lucky enough to see his director's cut of this modern classic. As I have said this film is to me better than the original in that there is not such a sad ending but a razor one.
