Hurkeah was born on an island in the great river north of Sandashah. His parents were merchants and respectable citizens, and Hurkeah, a wild youth, was continually getting into scrapes that caused them consierable embarrassment. One day, an old pledged warrior drifter came through the town and took a room at the local inn. At night, around the communal fire he took to telling stories of far away lands, and adventures he had had in his youth. These stories stirred Hurkeah into asking if he could accompany him when he left the village. A few weeks later Hurkeah took a few small personal items and with his new mentor, Taligurra, left the village. His parents never sent anyone after him. Over the next few years Taligurra taught Hurkeah what he could - not just sword skills but also some small store of magic from his early years as a priest - before dying in a fight with some assissins of the Kasserim. Alone now now, Hurkeah carries on much as before, drifting from town to town, selling his skills where he can and fighting when he must.
