Ghul
The Ghul is a humanoid creature, but with the head of a
carnivorous beast. Its skin is hairless, save for a massive mane that
cascades down its back. It is a scavenger of corpses and skulker in
shadows in most parts of the world, but in the deserts of central
Gorgamelle they gather in packs and attack even large bodies of
travellers. Ghul have savage claws on their hands and feet which
allow them to tunnel in soft ground with prodigious speed and they
have hands more muscular, but otherwise similar, to humans, letting
them climb with ease. They are very fast, extremely tough and
enormously strong, and are capable of berserk bloodlust in which they
seem to shrug off wounds. They eat their own dead as readily as
anyone else's. Ghul have a very keen sense of smell, and are masters
of concealment. Sages have debated for centuries over whether Ghul
are truly sentient. At times they cooperate in attacks on prey in a
way that does not seem animal-like, but they have never been heard to
speak - indeed they make little noise at all - except for a low
snarling and grunting when they are in bloodlust. Although their
hands could easily hold weapons, Ghul rarely use even a rock or tree
branch, and they neither wear clothing or build. The commonest legend
about the Ghul is that they are descended from degenerate humans who
were cursed by the gods for cannibalism, but most sages doubt that
they are related to humans at all, but rather to beastmen
