Hooded Hookbeak

This peculiar animal resembles a kite some 1-2 metres in length, with strong, stumpy claws tipping its outermost points, and a long tail. Its most prominent feature is the massive hooked beak that gives it its name. The hooded hookbeak cannot fly, but glides noiselessly. It perches on a high place awaiting prey, then glides down upon it. Smaller prey will find itself wrapped in the hookbeak's muscular embrace and either torn to shreds by the beak or simply crushed. The monster will also attack larger prey, dropping over its head like a hood (hence the name) blinding and suffocating it with it's wings, strangling with its tail, all the while mauling it with claws and beak. The Hooded Hookbeak is slow and clumsy on the ground, or while climbing, but its flexible form and dark colouration makes it a master of concealment, and its prey is usually taken completely unaware. The Hooded Hookbeak is obviously related to the larger and even more dangerous Skairai.
