Strangletail
Also called the forest hangman, this odd creature is about the
size of a man, with straggly grey fur, streaked with white and black.
Its legs are short and bowed, tipped with sturdy yellow claws, it
has a long, snuffling snout and enormous yellow eyes, but its most
notable feature is its enormous, hairless tail, about twice the
length of its body. This tails is muscular and prehensile, allowing
the creature to progress rapidly through the branches of temperate or
tropical forests where it makes its home. The strangletail lies in
wait on the upper side of a thick branch and prey passing in reach,
usually below, are seized by its powerful tail - normally by the neck
- and throttled. The strangletail is most active by twilight, when
it is all but invisible, but they can see well in darkness and are
active in dimly lit areas at all times. In bright sunlight, they
hide in large nests in the upper branches, where they drag their prey
to devour them.
