وسياسة ودقة نظر وفروسية وشدة بأس وجمال فائق.كانت سمراء اللون قوية اللحظ وكانت
الهيبة والجمال والعظمة تلوح على وجهها وكانت أسنانها بيضاء كاللؤلؤ وصوتها قوياً
وجهوراً، وجسمها صحيحاً سالماً ، وكانت الابتسامات لا تفارقها، فعاشت بعظمة ملوكية
مقلدة ملوك الأكاسرة فكانت تضع العمامة على رأسها وتلبس ثوباً أرجوانياً مرصعاً
بالجواهر وكثيراً ما كانت تترك ذراعها مكشوفة. وتثقفت بالثقافة اليونانية وكانت
تتكلم الآرامية والقبطية وبعض اللاتينية واليونانية ولها اطلاع واسع على تاريخ

الروماني الذي امتدت سلطته على سورية وما يليها ولقب ملك الملوك. فاستأثر أذينة
بسورية وسائر آسيا الرومانية ، وكان كثيراً ما يحارب الفرس ويردهم عن بلاده. وكان
إذا خرج إلى الحرب أناب عنه في حكومة تدمر امرأته زنوبيا، حتى قيل : إن ما وصل
إليه أذينة من البراعة في القيادة والدراية في تعبئة الجيوش يرجع إليها.</span><span

الاتهام إليها في مقتل زوجها) اعتلت أريكة الملك باسم ابنها وهب اللات، ثم أخذت
تسعى لابنها بتثبيت عرشه وتقوية الدولة التدمرية. وبعد حين ساءت العلاقات بين
الإمبراطور الروماني والدولة التدمرية، فأرسل الإمبراطور بعض الكتائب الرومانية
لإعادة بسط النفوذ الروماني، ولكن زنوبيا حطمت هذه الكتائب وأولتها شر هزيمة.</span><span

فتوجهت إلى مصر تلك البلاد الغنية بالحبوب وفتحتها بكل اقتدار وبذلك عززت مكانة
تدمر التجارية وجعلت علاقاتها التجارية تمتد إلى الحبشة وجزيرة العرب . ولم تقنع
بمصر بل شرعت تغزو بلاداً وتفتح أوطاناً وتقهر جنوداً وتهزم جيوشاً حتى اتسعت
مملكتها اتساعاً عظيماً فامتدت حدودها من شواطئ البسفور حتى النيل أطلقت عليها

الذي بادر حالا إلى التفاوض مع زنوبيا وأوقف زحف جيوشها مقابل هبات عظيمة لها
واعترف بألقاب ابنها وامتيازاته وضربت النقود في إنطاكية والإسكندرية فكانت صورة
وهب اللات على وجهها الأول وعلى الوجه الثاني صورة أورليانوس.وفي خطوة تالية عهدت
بملك مصر إلى ولدها وأزالت من النقود صورة الإمبراطور ونادت بالاستقلال المطلق.</span><span

هذا إلا وصب عليها جام غضبه ووطن نفسه على التنكيل بها وسحق الدولة التدمرية. عبأ
جيشاً علاماً وعلى رأسه القائد بروبوس<sup>1</sup> وبعث به إلى مصر سنة 271م ،
وتولى بنفسه جيشاً آخر توجه به إلى آسيا الصغرى على أن يلتقي الجيشان في تدمر .
بدأت الخطة تلاقي النجاح ، حيث احتل بروبوس مصر بدون أن يلقى مقاومة كبيرة ، أما أورليانوس
فوصل أنطاكية واستطاع أن يقهر القوات التدمرية في معركة كبرى دامية مما اضطرها إلى

زنوبيا التي انسحبت إليها ، فأوقع بجيشها هزيمة أخرى ، شابهت ظروفها معركة أنطاكية
ووصل تدمر وحاصرها حصاراً تاماً قضى على ما لدى التدمريين من المؤن ،وكانت قد أعدت
كل ما تستطيع إعداده من وسائل الدفاع إذ وضعت على كل برج من أبراج السور اثنين أو
ثلاثة من المجانيق تقذف المهاجمين بالحجارة، وتمطرهم بقذائف النفط الملتهبة، وصممت
على المقاومة بشجاعة بطولية، معلنة أنه إذا كان لا بد لحكمها من النهاية فلتقترن

شروط معتدلة: أن تنسب انسحاباً كريماً ، وأن يحتفظ مواطنوها بامتيازاتهم القديمة .
لكنها رفضت شروطه بإباء وشمم، لا بل اقترن الرفض بالإهانة ، وبعد أن استبد بها
اليأس ، حاولت زنوبيا الهروب ووصلت نهر الفرات إلا أنها وقعت في الأسر واقتيدت إلى
أورليانوس وهو في ميدان القتال فأحسن معاملتها سنة 282م.ثم اقتادها معه إلى روما
ولم يقتلها بل قتل بعض كبار قوادها ومستشاريها بعد محاكمة أجريت لهم في حمص<sup>1</sup>.</span><span
