We would like to thank the Oklahoma State Department of Environmental Quality and Delaware County Conservation District Extension for selecting our project for the grant proposal submitted by Mr. Dale DuShane. The recent completion of Phase I of the construction of the pond and its filling is a welcomed event. The site was selected after initial sites proved to be too pervious and more labor intensive. The Project began in the Fall of 2000 with the proposal. Meetings were setup and planning was discussed with experts from various county offices. Samples were taken and analyzed for porosity. We traveled to other established sites for ideas and we would like to thank Wagoner, Coweta and Broken Arrow Public Schools for allowing us to do so. We also would like to thank Mr. Ken Williams, a biologist of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife, for his time and help with our tours. He has indicated their possible assistance in the construction of the sign and habitats for the project. The Oaks Mission community is invited to share in the upcoming events of the dedication and use of the site as Phase II becomes completed with the planting of trees and establishing trails for an arboretum-nature trail. A gazebo with walkways are planned with an outdoor seating area for classes. Habitat sanctuaries are to be constructed for inducing wildlife in the nearby pristene Spring Creek area to visit and live- A wildlife housing development area. Accessibility for the handicapped will be considered as much as possible along with the stocking of aquatic life for biodiversity and ecological observations for our students, community members and guests. Equipment will be acquired for the students to use and learn more about the environmental concerns and needs for their future. As the Pond is under construction so is our webpage for it. Please visit our pond and outdoor classroom facilities and schedule a tour for your school. Thank you for visiting Our Oaks Mission Pond Page at Angelfire. Please come back and visit again!
