well, it was certainly a day of mixed emotions, for me anyway! the second time i've seen the spicies in concert, and the third i've seen mel c, it is so bizarre to try to think about what i want to say about it. dont get me wrong, i had a really great time, but somehow, it seemed to lack just a tiny bit of the old spicy sparkle- and dont get me wrong- i cant stand geri- but i think having seen them with her before, it wasn't 'worse', it was just different!!
well, i'll go through all the songs they played first. spice up your life- having come through the floor on the winter wonderland set piece at the side of the arena (make sure you're looking in the right place everyone!), the girls opened up with SUYL, and it was loads of fun! they wore cowboy- type outfits on, posh in lilac, sporty in blue, mel b in green, baby in pink.
something kinda funny- quite surprising this, as it doesnt seem to be one of the most obvious tracks to have done (even tho they did do it at wembley). a perfect rendition, if a bit dull.
right back at ya- this, as they confirmed to us (!) will be the next single, released deifintely in the new year. its alright- not somehting i might buy personally but it was very RnB (more of that to come!).
Step To ME- I absolutely LOVE this song, its one of my favourite spice girl tracks, and to hear it played live was absolutely brill! unfortunately, the crowd didnt really get into it- maybe because they didnt know it- but i was the only person in my whole row who was dancing!!
Too Much- they faced the other way for the most of this song, and then they moved round the circular stage I *think*. it was good.
Mama- this was a really, really, good rendition- note perfect. each girl sat on a chair facing each side of the arean- Mel B was right above us (more of that later!) this is when i started phoning everybody up to let them have a listen!
Woman- another new song, where the chorus goes "double u oh em ay en" (as in spelling out woman). it was quite funky- not too fast tho, and i thought it might have worked better if it had been faster.
2 become 1- very good- although emma didnt do the bit where she holds that note, and everyone thinks they've finished, when in fcat they havent!
Stop- this is where they had a costume change- into tight black and silver outfits, with a kind of circuit board pattern on them. mel b wore her favourite boots- the ones that she even wore in istanbul! (remember them?) this was SO much fun, everyone was singing along, and they emerged from the centre stage!
Holler, Holler- this was a bit dissappointing i have to say. t first i thought it sounded promising, with a kind of SUBT twang at the start- but then it just disintigrated into a Destiny's child offcut kind of thang. sorry girls, thumbs down!
Who do you think you are- announced as a "bit of a disco track" by Mel c, this certainly got everyone in the mood, with the girls in the centre stage doing our favourite dance!
Never give Up- fantatsic!! thats it reallY!!
Wannabe- got the biggest cheer of the night- and OMG- Mel B changed the lyrics to we got "me like M C who like it on ...." !!
Goodbye- this was absolutely brilliant- fake snow came down , and literally went on throughout the whole song! everyone on the floor was covered! everyone sang along, and at the end of it, they all stood still on the stage as it revolved.
Viva Forever- coming back in matching red coloured outfits and fake fur (mel C was taking the p!ss a bit, like putting it over he head when all the others were wearing it *elegantly* ), this was also very very good. they had a big gospel choir on with them.
Christmas Medley- Wish it could be christmas everyday- probably the highlight of the show for me- it was so much fun! they had the lyrics up on the video screens so everybpody could sing along- except on the last chorus, mel b and c didnt know the words, so they just went "blah blah blah blah" it was dead funny!
wannabe- for the second time, which i was a bit shocked about! great fun again though, and this time mel b sang the proper words!
other highlights included mel b getting some poor fellah up on stage, and dancing with him, i think it was during 2 become 1- and OMG- she was dancing so dirty with him, making him put his arms around her, and he was touching her ass, and i was wells hocked! what would jimmy say
mel c wet herself at one point- they all had to huddle togetehr while she wiped the front of her trousers- she was going "it's water- nothing else!" she was so embarrassed! then she stuffed a load of tissues up her....ahem!
when they did mama, they each sat facing a part of the arena. well, in our block, because it was triangular and i was on the end of the row, there was no-one sitting behind me so i was like, the only person standing up, and i just knew i had to do somehting to catch her attention without making a show of myself, (very difficult), so i just stood there, and put a big grin on my face, like *properly* shoing my teeth to her, the cheesiest smile you have *ever* seen* and at the end of the song, she did it back to me and winked! ARGH! and my friend said she even noticed, so i was *totally* made up!
victoria winked a number of times, which i was quite shocked at, i dont know if they were aimed at me , probably not, but they were certainly coming in our direction. the only one who didnt make any eye contact was mel c, which i'm not surprised at, coz she didnt at her solo concert either, and i was like, 2 rows from the front then!
the man standing next to me who i didnt know shouted at one point, "wave at us emma" and she turned round, gave *THE* cheekiest grin ever and winked!! i know it wasn't to me, but it was so close!!!!
there was a really funny point where after one song, cant rememebr which, mel b stoped everything, and screamed, "there's a man in the front row who is crossing his arms, and i aint 'appy". she made the cameras point RIGHT at him, so everyone in the arena could see, and then all the other spicies came over and started tutting, and it was just like the old days! the man just couldnt even take his head out of his hands, the whole arena was laughing at him!
oh yeah, david beckham was sitting in the next block to us! didnt really get a good look tho!
well. mel b has a new hairstyle- its much longer and falls down quite far back; she looks much younger, its a bit like her sister danielle's. mel c's hair was dreadful, it was all reased back, very dark, with a little tintin quiff int he middle. victoria's mullet looked terirble, but emma's hair was just lovely, in two bunches.
there was a funny bit where mel b said "oh, oh, there's somethign going to come out of my mouth, y'all better watch out" and victoria said "better make sure you're not standing behind her either". well anyway, there was a bit firework/ fire thing! so watch out for it!
i have to say victoria looked desperately thin. she looked really ill. at one point, she tood with her back to us, and her shoulderblade's were sticking out so mnuch i was shocked. she also kept coughing all the way through, i hope she's okay :-(
after announcing SYBT as "an oldie but goodie" the girls did and absolutely amazing vocal harmony demosnstration thingy, perhaps trying to show (successfully) how much there vocal talents had improved. that was the one major thing i noticed- their singing was impeccable, there were no noticeable bum notes. however, mel c did seem a little quiet.
