"OVER THE HILL GANG?"
[Maybe]
We were at Nelson and Carol Bailey's house the weekend of Jan.15th. Clifford Mursch drove to Tavares the 14th bringing Mike Yoder with him. Jerry Summerall flew down and was at his parent's house with his wife and daughter. Don Sears drove down and was at his parent's house.
Saturday the 15th, I picked up Jack Tomson and went to the Mobil station to meet the others. Cliff picked up Mike and Don and came to the station. On the way, we stopped and picked up Jerry. Two hundred miles later we were at Nelson's. Stuart Mathias and his wife, Joyce, sailed down on their boat and were already there.
We spent most of the day sitting outside talking, laughing and remembering the past. At one point, everyone was watching the goose that moved in with Nelson, sneaking around. I wasn't watching because I didn't know he was sneaking up behind me. Everyone thought it was funny when he pecked me on the back of my neck. It was my fault because I had been playing with him earlier. I let the goose know he would look better with a side order of Plum Pudding. He must have understood because he didn't bother me again.
Some of us tried our hand at popping a whip. We all did very well. Well, I did OK. The whip I used was defective and didn't like me. The thing kept attacking and wrapping around me. After the whipping, some of us rode through the woods on Nelson's horses.
Saturday night we went to supper at a seafood restaurant. Nelson and Carol's son, Travis and his girlfriend, Jackie, met us there. We talked more and laughed even more. We were in a room away from everyone else and I saw people coming to the door and looking in. I guess to see what all the noise was about.
We went back to the house and by 11:00, all was quiet and lights were out. We were all up early the next morning enjoying a great breakfast, cooked by Carol. Nelson tried to make us believe he helped. I think he poured the coffee and got in Carol's way.
More sitting in the front yard and taking pictures that morning and then we went to a Cuban restaurant for lunch. Would you believe there is a Cuban restaurant in South Florida?
Back to the house and more talking, laughing, and remembering old times. If you went to T.H.S., we talked about you. Some more than others. We talked about good times and one of the many things we all agreed on was everyone in our class turned out to be good people. We also hoped all these good people would be able to be in Tavares for the Class Reunion in November and we will miss Patricia McFarland and Mike Lodge.
Sunday evening, Jack, Don and I left and went back to Tavares. Don needed to get back home and Jack and I had to work the next day. The others left Monday.
That was the end of a great weekend. We all left with some great memories and many pictures. The only bad memory was leaving. However, we are as close as our computers, thanks to the Internet and e-mail.
