Clark Dobson
I left Tavares in 1968, and returned to graduate school at FSU. I completed the Masters Degree in music, then changed over to Education Administration, and completed a Ph.D. in 1972.
From 1971-1974, I was an Associate Director of The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, a national professional organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.
From 1974-1976, I was a professor and administrator at the University of South Carolina at Columbia. It was a great job, and the people were terrific, but I yearned to get back to the Washington, D.C. area.
In 1976, I landed a job at George Mason University, one of the Virginia state universities, located in Fairfax, VA (just 12 miles from D.C.). For the next 23 years, I taught and served in various administrative roles at Mason as it grew from about 8,000 students to over 25,000. I retired from the University in May, 1999.
During the last 30 years or so, I've continued an involvement in music by singing in a large choral society, working with a professional opera company (Opera Theater of Northern Virginia), and serving as an informal advisor to the U.S. Marine Band.
I've never forgotten my years in Tavares or the many friends I made there. To this day, I am proud of our accomplishments during those years.
