Ow!” I shrieked when my head was smacked for singing that little tune I had made up. “Theresa, would you please be quiet! I’m going to kill you the next time you sing that!” Holly glowered at me from the seat next to mine on the bus. “Fine. But don’t whine at me when your bored and want something to listen to.” She rolled her eyes. “The sound of the wheels on the bus is better than you singing.” That reminded me of another song. “The wheels on the bus go round and round! Round and round! Round and round! The wheels on the bus go round and round, all the way to town!” Holly just sighed and went back to her book. “Whatcha reading?” I pulled the book from her hands and looked at the cover. Some mystery. I hated mysteries. Who wanted to read about people looking for the guy that killed someone else when it is so obvious to me who the killer is? “How can you stand these mysteries? They’re boring.” I stated. “I’m reading it for lack of anything else to read.” Holly said as if that should be obvious. “But do you have to read? Come on, I need someone to talk to! The talkative side of me will die out on this trip if you read the whole time!” “Theresa shut up and give me my book back.” I pretended to look at the back of the book with great interest. “Hmm, maybe I will read this myself.” “Theresa! Didn’t you just say that you thought mysteries were boring?” “I most certainly didn’t! How could I ever say something so insulting about my favorite books?” I adopted the air of a snobby nerd with my nose in the air. Holly giggled, and reached for her book. “You are such an idiot! Give me the stupid book.” “No! No, my book! I wannit. You can’t never get my book ‘way from me.” I said now acting like a little child. “Theresa you suck!” Holly cried but she was laughing. I started laughing to and gave the book back. She grabbed it and promptly started reading. “Holly! Please talk to me? Pretty, pretty please! I’ll be so bored I’ll die!” I pretended to die, very extravagantly and with my tongue hanging out of my mouth. “No Theresa, I don’t want to talk with you, now please let me read my book.” She said in a voice that clearly said she would continue reading whether I wanted her to or not. I sighed and finally admitted defeat. “Great. Now I”ll have no one to talk to on the whole way to camp.” I muttered to myself. “I’ll talk to you.” A deep voice said from the pair of seats beside us. (I was sitting by the aisle.) I looked over to where the voice was coming from, and nearly fell out of my seat. Talk about your hot guys! A pair of twinkling blue eyes looked at me from under a head of sunbleached, light brown hair. I couldn’t see how tall or what a great looking body he had because he was sitting down. Great. Why did he have to be so good looking? I am a crazy, funny, talkative person with my friends, but with people I don’t know, and especially guys, even ugly ones, I get so tongue tied. I get really nervous, and I have never had a normal conversation with a guy, except maybe guys I’ve known my whole life. But not cute guys! And now this totally gorgeous guy sitting next to me wants to talk. Great. *~*~*~*~* Jason watched the girl staring at him. He had just gave a very good opening line for flirting and she was just sitting there looking at him warily. He frowned. When he was watching her with her friend she had seemed like a flirty girl. Outgoing and friendly. Finally she said something. “Hi.” She had a quiet voice, and a nervous expression in her eyes. She flipped her long hair over her shoulder. “Hey. So, do you wanna talk? You seemed to be pretty desperate a minute ago.” “Uh, I guess.” She looked confused and scared. “I’m Jason.” She shook her head as if to clear it, and then smiled a bit. “I”m Theresa.” “Where are you heading?” “To camp. Me and Holly are going to be counsellors.” “What camp?” “Pellawago.” “Really? I’m going there too, I’m going to be the swimming instructor.” She gave a wry grin. “You look like it.” “Huh?” Her eyes immeadieatly clouded and he could see embarrassment and a flash of amusement going through them. Did she have any idea what expressive eyes she had? “Uh never mind, I just meant that you have a tan and sunbleached hair and....” she trailed off. “Yeah, I guess I do look like one of those surfer dudes. Do you like swimming?” “Hate it. Don’t see the point in getting all wet for the sake of a few minutes of fun. Oh! I didn’t mean to insult you.” she said quickly. “I know. We’ll have to fix your thinking about swimming this summer won’t we?” “Don’t even think about throwing me in the lake!” she shrieked. Jason grinned, she seemed to be lightening up. “It’s been tried.” a voice said from behind Theresa, and then a head popped out from behind her. “Hi, I’m Holly.” “Jason.” “Yeah I know, I heard you tell Therese. So your going to the same camp as us. Who forced you into going? Therese dragged me along.” “I’m coming of my own free will.” Jason shot a look at Theresa who was watching him closely, and quickly looked away when his eyes landed on her. “So Theresa, want me to give you any swimming lessons?” “If you want too. I’m a pretty hopeless case.” “Its actually amazing that Theresa hates swimming cause she’s good in every other sport she’s played.” Holly said, poking Theresa. “Really. What’s your favorite sports?” he asked her. “Oh definitely soccer, dancing and skating.” “She can run like the wind.” Holly poked Theresa again. “Holly, shut up. Jason doesn’t care.” “Oh actually I do. What kind of dancing do you do?” “I’m in Ukrainian and Highland, I’ve done some jazz, tap, hip-hop, and I want to try Irish. I’m also in Ballroom dancing for fun. Although I’d have to say Ukrainian’s my favorite, and the one I’m best at. Do you dance?” “Not worth beans.” “I’ll have to show you that this summer then.” she said, then her dark eyes clouded over again, and she looked nervous.” “You’ll have your work cut out for you.” “I can handle it.” “Well, you two seem to be getting along. I’ve done my duty, now I’m going to read.” Holly announced and went back to her book. Her duty? Oh well, Theresa seemed to be relaxing more. *~*~*~*~* I smiled. Wow! I was actually talking to this hot guy! I shot Holly a grateful look for helping me along, and she winked before reading again. I was about to turn back to Jason when the bus lurched to a stop and the driver hollered that we were at Camp Pellawago. I stood up and grabbed my stuff out of those compartments along the top at the same time Jason did. I sneaked a glance at him. Yep, he was a full head taller than my shorter than average frame, and had as great as a body as I had imagined. Sigh. When me and Holly got off the bus we just stood there for a minute sniffing the smell of pine needles and lake water before we went to the cabin with a sign that said ‘office’ hanging on it. “Hi, I’m Theresa Tenocowski, and this Holly Smythe. We’re counsellors.” “Ah yes,” the man at the desk said, “you’re both in cabin eight. Here’s a list of the kids you have and a few notes about them.” “Thank you.” We finally found cabin eight in the maze of cabins and buildings, and we stood outside the door for a minute. “Well, I guess we have to go in some time.” I remarked. “I sure hope the kids aren’t brats.” was Holly’s answer. I pushed open the door and was met with a silent cabin. “Huh! The kids aren’t here yet.” I said and threw my bag onto one of the bottom bunks. Holly jumped onto the one above mine. “So, who’s in our cabin?” “Well,” I shifted the papers around, “we have ten girls, Danny, Alexandra, Liz, Sunny, what kind of a name is Sunny? uh, Sandra, Caroll, Andrea, Mandi, Amity, where the hell did her parents get that name? and Wendy. Liz has asmtha, Alex is allergic to peanuts, and Caroll is allergic to milk. Poor kid, that would suck to be allergic to milk. No ice cream! Horrible!” Holly was giggling like crazy. “Amity? She must get teased about her name alot. Amity, what a crappy name.” “Remember Dorkis!” I shrieked, and Holly almost fell off her bed in howls of laughter. We had once knew a kid named Dorkis, and she was teased endlessly. I guess me and Holly are pretty mean, but it was so funny! Just when our giggles were calming down, the door opened and a tall girl with long blonde hair walked in. She had a backpack on and was carrying a travel bag, so I guessed she was one of the campers even if she looked taller than me. “Hello.” Holly jumped off her bunk. “Who are you?” “Mandi. This is my cabin right?” “Yep.” I scrambled off my bunk and went up to her. I had to look slightly up to see her face. She smiled. “You must be another camper, hey?” “Uh.......no. Actually I’m one of your counselors. My names Theresa, and this is Holly.” Mandi raised an eyebrow as she looked down at me. “Well okay. None of these other beds are claimed, right?” “Nope, have whatever one you want.” Holly replied. Mandi swung her stuff onto a bottom bunk and pulled a book from the backpack which she then proceeded to read.
