SHARJAH CANCELS
 
 

Seven types of cancels are recorded used in the emirate of Sharjah during the independent postal administration. Six
of the seven types inscribed “SHARJAH & DCIES” in Arabic and English and the seventh inscribed
“SHARJAH - KHOR FAKKAN”, also in Arabic and English. Almost all types are used in two different color, black or magenta ink.

 
 
 
 
Type 1
 
The Double Bridged Circle Cancel
 
The double bridged circle cancel “Type 1”, which was the first Sharjah cancel, was introduced on July 10th, 1963. The cancel inscribed “SHARJAH & Dcies./T.S” in Arabic and English. The “T.S” under the date line stand for “Trucial States”. The cancel is 30mm in diameter.
 
 
 
 
Type 2
 
The Double Large Circle Cancel
 
The double large circle cancel “Type 2”, was introduced in the year 1964. The cancel is a copy of “Type 1” and the only different between the first and the second types is the size which is 35mm in diameter. and the unbridged lines between the date. The cancel inscribed “SHARJAH & Dcies./T.S” in Arabic and English.
 
 
 
 
Type 3
 
The Double Circle Cancel
 
During the year 1966, the double circle cancel with a star above the date “Type 3” was introduced. The cancel inscribed “SHARJAH & DCIES” in English and Arabic and 27mm. in diameter. The same type was known used without the star above the date. The cancel was known used during the UAE postal administration and the latest known used date is December 1976.
 
 
 
 
Type 4
 
The Double Circle Cancel 2
 
Another type of the double circle cancel with a star “Type 4” was introduced during the year 1966. This type is almost a copy of “Type 3” and the only different is the Arabic font type. The cancel inscribed “SHARJAH & DCIES” in English and Arabic and 27mm. in diameter. Also, the cancel was known used during December 1970 without both, the upper star and year date.
 
 
 
 
Type 5
 
The Small Single Circle Cancel
 
The first small single circle cancel “Type 5”, inscribed “SHARJAH & DCIES” in Arabic and English and 23mm. in diameter was first known used during the year 1967. This type was common used during the early 1970s.Second small single circle cancel are known used during the UAE postal administration and the latest known used is May 1976.
 
 
 
 
Type 6
 
The Small Single Circle Cancel 2
 
 The second example of a small single circle cancel “Type 6”, inscribed “SHARJAH & DCIES” in Arabic and English, was introduced during the year 1967. The cancel is same as “Type 5” but different in Arabic font type. The cancel is 23mm. in diameter.
 
 
 
 
Type 7
 
Khor Fakkan Double Circle Cancel
 
Khor Fakkan double circle cancel “Type 7” is the most unusual and scarce cancel that used during the independent postal administration. The cancel inscribed “KHOR FAKKAN-SHARJAH” in Arabic and English.
