Sunday
Bible reading: John 20:1-20
The first day of the week is the day our beloved Savior and Redeemer
arose from the dead. The four gospels all agree and mention "the
first day of the week." For the Christian who bases his faith on
a lively hope, there is hardly a more inspiring set of verses than these:
"Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen"
(Luke 24 5-6) This message by the angels to the women at the tomb has
electrified and energized all those seeking the true message from God.
Do we appreciate the value this first day has? Our forefathers valued
it highly for their Redeemer's sake.
How do we use this day? For us it is a time of fellowship with other
believers in church. We are once again strengthened by hearing the Word
of God. It s a time for children to sit quietly and listen to the good
tidings from their heavenly Father. For youth it is a time of reflection
and growing in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Older brethren
and sisters are once again encourage in the faith they have long held
dear. It is a day of rest from our physical labors.
It is good to prepare as much as we can beforehand and minimize our labor
on Sunday. We should not be negligent and cause "the ox to stumble
into the well." It is not a time to do chores such as weeding the
flower beds, or mowing the yard, etc. Visiting the sick and needy is good
and right. Let us not neglect our own family's time of rest together.
We need not be on the run all of the time.
All of this because He arose!
