General Information - History and Future

Others saw a waste dump, a pile of scrap stone, a gang hangout, and worse. But we have a more positive and noble vision for this part of American heritage and patriotism.

The Armory was built in Haskell, OK in 1936 by the WPA (Works Progress Administration). Since then, it has been a concentration camp, a fire station, a skating rink, and a zinc plating facility.

The Armory's dark side: During the early 1940's the Armory housed Nazi POW's. It is said to be haunted by the ghosts of at least eight of the Nazi prisoners - they seem to be indifferent of our presence.

Street gangs and squatters inhabited the building until recently and are responsible for most of the damage to the building (graffiti, broken windows, etc.).

Sadly, we are still combating break-ins and vandalism, as some juveniles and/or degenerate citizens still see the building as their own property - they are accustomed to roaming around inside and climbing on the roof at will - and more broken windows due to Homecoming Game "celebrations". We find this behavior unacceptable, and local authorities have offered little more than excuses - also unacceptable.

So what is our vision?

In homage to the servicemembers who have fought, are fighting, or will fight to keep America free and safe, the main hall will be a military museum dedicated to POW's, MIA's, and KIA's, with various other military and history exhibits throughout each of the 19 rooms in the building.

This 18,000 square foot facility can host a wide variety of events in our modest 4,000 square foot studio, or in our larger 10,000 square foot studio, and boasts a stage large enough to comfortably accommodate a live band. An additional 7,000 square foot roof-top garden with gazebo is being designed for near-future construction!

Coming soon is a full kitchen and food prep area for catering of productions and events (caterer not included).

Administrative services and office ammenities are included, as well as a 1,000 cubic foot vault, climate controlled for safe storage of valuable and sensitive properties, supplies, and equipment.

The firing range, under the Armory, is an approved (and proven) storm shelter (much needed in Tornado Alley), and the Armory - as a whole - will be applying for membership in the "Safe Place Program".

Public events such as dances/concerts, charity fundraisers and private parties/conventions/reunions are among some of the many other availabilities at the Armory.

We are looking for volunteers and sponsors to help us preserve a piece of American History and a symbol of freedom.

You can help save this important piece of our great American heritage. Help us restore the Armory so that it can once again stand as a light of freedom and be an emblem of the undying spirit of our great nation.

A number of individuals and non-profit organizations have already signed on for this noble undertaking, as we all care about our communities, but we need your help, too.
