Nikhil's Tropical freshwater fish aquarium(January 06, 2006 : Alpharetta, GA)
|
I have been a fish enthusiast since college and have had various aquariums in India over the course of time between 1994 and 1996. Finally, I decided to own one here in the U.S. and I am really glad that I made that decision. There were various options and I decided to set up a freshwater one with schooling fish category. The below pictures are taken inside my apartment in Alpharetta, GA (suburb of Atlanta). |
Night view: Aquarium |
The aquarium is a 55 gallon tank. The dimensions being 48"x12.5"x20" (LxWxH). It consists of a dual open hood with inside mounted twin fluorescent tubes. The aeration is provided by a twin-mouth filter located on the top left back end. The temperature of the aquarium is controlled by a submerged heater attached on the left top corner. The temperature is monitered by the internal thermometer strip seen on the right side corner of the tank. . |
That's me posing besides the aquarium. At this point in time (Feb 23, 2006), the tank is a home for two (2) Platy's, eleven (11) Neon Tetras , eight (8) Red Eye Tetras , two (2) black/white Angel fish, two (2) large golden shelled snails and numerous tiny wild snails. The fish are sheltered by the aquatic plants and grass. The false tree stump and the, show-arched bridge add to the beauty of the aquarium and also offer the fish a place to explore and rest. I am planning to add more of the Tetras at a gradual pace so that the ecological cycle of the tank is not disturbed. There is also a risk of disease from new fish. | Me, Myself & the Aquarium |
Aquarium & the neighbors :-) |
The picture captures a view of the apartment with the aquarium. It gives an overall idea of the size of the tank. Believe me... it's extremely peaceful to watch the fish swim in the vast expanse of H2O. No need for any meditation exercises !! A wonderful experience to the human mind ! |
