The Ausable Chasm is about 15 miles north of Lake Placid town. The Chasm is nicknamed as the Grand Canyon of the East coast. It's comprised of deep rocky gorges and the river flowing in the center rendering it a grand canyon look.

We were simply thrilled at the sight of the chasm and decided to capture our emotions on a picture. The picture is taken at the entrance of the Ausable chasms.

Click here for a view of the chasms at the point of their origin. The Water from the falls continue onwards and follow a route very similar to that found at the Grand canyon along the Colorodo river.

During our return journey from the Ausable Chasm's it was nearly 8:00 PM and the sun was setting along the western skies. It appeared that that the tallest mountain in view was sucking the black clouds and hiding itself from the rest of the world. It apprared to me, very similar to the description of Mount Doom from the LOTR.
