The Garfield
County Sheriff's Department Drug Abuse Resistance Education car
won first place at a car show last week at the annual state DARE
conference. The patriotic-themed DARE car, which was unveiled in
early March, suffered more than $8,000 in damage after a high
speed chase through two wheat fields in April. But officials
managed to get it fixed up in time for the June 26-28 DARE
conference in Oklahoma City.
The
department received a trophy to commemorate the DARE car's
victory in the police class of the car show competition, beating
out about 30 other vehicles. Another class included vehicles
that are not used for law enforcement purposes.
Undersheriff Jerry Niles praised DARE officers Shon Jackson and
George Dillman for their work in lining up sponsors to help
outfit the 1997 LTD Crown Victoria, as well as getting it
repaired in time for the car show.
The car has several red stripes down each side, as well as a
blue stripe filled with white stars. There also is a bald eagle
gracing the rear window.
Sponsors include J&L Marketing, Ad-Vinyl, Expert Tire, Sooner
Auto, Performance Audio, Boy's Market, Car Quest, Passey Auto
Body, Wilson's Communication, Howard Thompson's Investigation
and the Chisholm Trail Expo Center. |
