Most Maitlens can trace their roots back to Isaac
Maitlen. We know we go back to Sir Richard de Mauteland who married the heiress to the lands of Thurlestane in the time of Alexander II (1214-49). See Thirlestane Castle.

If you have the name of the father of Isaac N.Maitlen Sr(husband of Sarah Fiers)please let us know! Hints: Isaac's marriage license may have Medlin or Medlen......Isaac's dad may have used the original Maitland spelling or possibly Lauderdale. Some members with a a family would use the Lauderdale name while others would use Maitland.

John David Maitlen (son of Isaac Coleman Maitlen, grandson of Isaac N.
Maitlen and the great grandson of Isaac Maitlen) came to
The Oklahoma Land Run of 1889 from Kansas.
His great-grandfather,
Isaac, would be my
great-great-great-great
grandfather.
John David and his wife Eliza Jane
Howland Maitlen moved to Norfolk (near Yale and Cushing, OK)
when they purchased their farm in 1903. In the fall of 2003, that
farm will be in the Maitlen Family
for
100 years.
It has been fun to see family resemblance in pictures of ancestors and with distant cousins at the reunion. ******
