SHOCK
SYMPTOM: Loss of colour and appetite. May gasp and fins may be held close.
TREATMENT: Add two tablespoons of salt per gallon of water (3.8 liters) and heat the water to about 32 - 35*C.
SUFFOCATION
SYMPTOM: Gasp at surface.
TREATMENT: Take a few fish out and put in a different tank, turn the temperature down a notch and eliminate the cause if it is known.
TORN FINS, WOUNDS
SYMPTOM: Fins split or frayed, scales can be missing.
TREATMENT: Take out older aggressive fish and heat the temperature to about 27*C. Salt will also help.
BACTERIAL GILL DISEASE
SYMPTOM: The fish act sluggishy, the gills are inflamed and they may have a loss of appetite.
TREATMENT: Add a bit of aquarium salt to the water and do plenty of water changes. Try and feed them on live food only until they get their appetite back and then feed them well on a good diet of flakes & livefoods.
POP - EYE
SYMPTOM: The fish will have (a) bulging eye(s) and it can look a bit cloudy.
TREATMENT: I do not no any treatment to this disease, try to find a liquid treatment that would cure this bacterial disease.
ICH - WHITE SPOT
SYMPTOMS: White little dots, spreading all over the body. This desease is one of the most common ones around. It is also contagious.
TREATMENT: Salt in the water and lots of water changes. Turn the temperature up to about 32*C for a while.
