Selecting good fish

If you are new to the Tropical fish hobby then take some time to look in an aquarium for the healthy looking fish. They should be aggressive around feeding time, active and show no white spots or have real red patches under the gills. When you have selected a fish(es) and have brought it home DO NOT just undo it and put it straight into the tank.

You should always float it on top of the water in its bag for at least 5 minutes so the water in the bag warms up to the same temperature as your tanks water. Undo the bag and carefully let the fish swim out and into the tank. It can be a little shy at first so don't worry if it stays at the bottom of the tank for a while. There is a rule for having an amount of fish in one aquarium, one inch of fish per gallon (3.8 liters) of water in the tank.
