My FRENCH FAMILY Connection
My French grandfather was Camille Alphonse Barrot. He was the father of my mother, Madeleine Anna (Barrot) Sillani. The parents of Camille were Francois Barrot (born approximately 1866 in France) and Marie Rosalie Anna Thomas. His parents were visiting the USA, in Pennsylvania, when he was born on 7 December 1894. He returned to France shortly after birth. Apparently he worked several jobs during his lifetime. At one time he worked as railroad worker and another time he worked in a cafe. He liked the good things of life, he was pleasant to live with, and he had a happy nature. Siblings of Camille include: Francoise Barrot; Anna (Barrot) Andre, Irma Rose (Barrot). Irma had a daughter named Raymonde Therme. Raymonde never married and she still lives in France today (1 June 2002). I have been corresponding with her. I hope to meet her some day. Raymonde and my mother were first cousins.

This is a photo of my French grandparents. I never met my grandfather but I remember my grandmother very well. Her name was Valentine Rachel (Pastre) Barrot (I called her Meme Tetine). She was born 19 February 1889 in Codognan, Gard, FRANCE. She was first married to Paul Frederic Loyer on 21 October 1907. They had 2 children: Vincent Maurice Loyer (born 18 April 1911) and Pierre Loyer. Valentine and Paul divorced and she later married Camile A. Barrot. She and Camille had one child, Madeleine Barrot, my mother.

The photo to the left shows (from left to right) Pierre Loyer, Valentine Barrot, Madeleine Barrot, Camille Barrot, and Vincent Loyer. I think the photo must have been take between 1927-1929. I based this estimate on the appearance of my Mother. She looks to be approximately 3 to 5 years of age in the photo and she was born in 1924.
In 1995 my husband, Gary, and I went to France to visit my cousin, Jacques Loyer. They were very kind to us and we stayed at their beautiful home in Nice, France. They took us to Italy and to Monaco. It was our most memorable vacation. Jacques is the son of Vincent Loyer (my mother's half-brother). In 2001, Jacques and his wife, Christiane, came to visit with us. It was their first trip to the U.S.A. We enjoyed it very much. We have made a very good friendship. |
