DEATH OF MRS. F.M. MORFORD
After a long period of illness, Mrs. F.M. Morford, one of the odest residents
of our city passed away at her home in the north part of town, Thursday,
September 12.
Cordelia Day was born in Jennings county, Indiana, Sept. 11th, 1835, and died
at her home in Malvern, Iowa, Sept. 12, 1912.
She came with her parents to Monroe county, Iowa at the age of 13. She was
married to Milo Gibson, March 20, 1854. To this union was born six daughters, 4
survive her. At the beginning of the war, Mr. Gibson enlisted in the army but
soon contracted smallpox and died. She was again united in marriage, to F.M.
Morford, May 17, 1868. To this union was born seven children, five boys and two
girls. The oldest boy, F.A., died about nine years ago. In 1873, Mr. and Mrs.
Morford moved to Malvern, where they have since made their home. She had been a
great sufferer for eighten yars, (sic) still she never complained, always
looking on the bright side and was cheerful and happy. She was a kind and
loving mother, always very thoughtful of her family.
Her friends were many, as she always had a good word for every one.
When a young girl she united with the United Brethren church, but there being
no U.B. church in Malvern, she united with the M.E. church of which she was a
member when called away.
Eight of her children were with her and attended the funeral.
She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, ten children, 13 grand-children, 10
great-grand-children, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, hosts of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the M.E. church Saturday at 2:00 p.m.,
conducted by Rev. J.E. Wilkins, of the Baptist church of Emerson, the Methodist
minister being away to conference. Many beautiful floral offerings were sent by
neighbors and friends.

MRS. F. M. MORFORD
Mrs. F. M. Morford, a pioneer of Malvern, died Thursday, Sept. 12, after a long
illness. The funeral services were from the Malvern M.E. church Saturday, Sept.
14, Rev. J.E. Wilkins of the Baptist church at Emerson conducting the services.
Mrs. Morford, nee Cordelia Day, was born in Jennings county, Ind., Sept. 11,
1835. With her parents, she came to Monroe county, Iowa, at the age of 13.
March 20, 1854 she was married to Milo Gibson. Six daughters, four of whom
survive, were born to the union. Mr. Gibson entered the army, contracted smallpox
and died. May 17, 1868, she was married to F.M. Morford. To that union were
born five sons and two daughters. The family moved to Malvern in 1873.
Her husband, ten children, forty-three grand children, forty great grand
children and two sisters survive her.

F. M. Morford, who came to Malvern in 1873, and spent the greater part of his
life here, died early Friday morning in the home of his son, Charles, after an
illness of some three weeks of pneumonia and other complications.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church in Malvern,
conducted by Rev. J.F. Bingaman, pastor of the Glenwood M.E. church of which
Mr. Morford was a member, assisted by Rev. E.E. Goodrich.
Music was furnished by Mrs. F.R. Chantry, Mrs. L.A. Talbott, R.W. Criswell, and
Allen Wortman, with Mrs. G.S. Eacrett as accompanist.
Interment was in the Malvern cemetery. The pall bearers were Eward Knight,
Frank Hertz, L.A. Talbott, Ira Mullen, F.R. Chantry, and Clarence Kearney.
Mr. Morford had been making his home with his son, Cyrus, in Glenwood for some
time past and about a month ago came over to visit his son, Charles, and his
daughter, Mrs. Mary Thomas, and while here was taken sick and never recovered.
The following obituary was given:
Francis M. Morford, son of William and Phoebe Morford, was born May 14, 1847 in
Valpariso, Ind., and died July 1, 1932, at his home in Malvern, Iowa.
He came from Indiana with his parents to Albia, Iowa, where he lived until
September, 1873, when he came to Malvern and has lived in Mills county
practically all of the time since.
He was united in marriage May 17, 1868 to Cordelia Day Gibson in Albia, and to
this union were born seven children. The oldest child, Arlando, preceded him in
death April 2, 1904. The living children are: A.C. of Eugene, Ore.; C.H. of
Glenwood; S.J. of Snyder, Colo.; C.N. of Malvern; Mrs. Mina Buckingham of
Council Bluffs, and Mrs. Myrtle Good of Emerson. There are also two
stepdaughters: Mrs. Mary Thomas of Malvern and Mrs. Eliza Jones of Gordon,
Nebr., seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
When a mere boy he united with the M.R. church, but there being no church of
that denomination in Malvern he joined the Methodist Episcopal church. Living
with his children in different places since the death of his wife in 1912, he
gave his letter to the M.E. church in Glenwood.
He was an industrious honorable citizen, honest in his relations with his
fellow-men. He was a loving husband and father, making no difference between his
own and his step-children.
He was always faithful to his Lord and the church, attending the services when
at all able, a student of the Bible. He loved to read his Bible and was
perfectly ready and willing to go to his Lord and Master.
