PASSING OF J.F. DAY
The community was shocked and grieved last Friday afternoon to hear that J.F.
Day had passed away, following a week of intense suffering. The direct and
immediate cause of his death was gangrene.
John Freeman Day, oldest son of Silas and Martha E. Day was born in Monroe
County, Iowa, February 19, 1872 and departed this life at his late home, west
of Lovilia, on Friday, December 10, 1920, aged 48 years, 9 months and 25 days.
He was united in marriage to Miss Minta E. Spencer, June 14, 1896. To this
happy union was born eight children, **five boys and three girls,** all of who
are living except Floyd, the oldest, who departed this life at the age of two.
He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife, seven children, Edna, Clyde,
Hayes, Alberta, Harry, Dalias, and Thelma. All of whom were at his bedside,
except Clyde who was in California. He also leaves an aged father, S.W. Day of
Brush, Colo, his mother having preceded him in death. Oct. 6 1920 to that Happy
Land where there is no sorrow nor pain, to be with Jesus where they are united
never to part again, awaiting the loved ones they left behind to join them
there. He leaves three sisters and five brothers: Mrs. Minnie Ream of Brush,
Colo.; Harvey Day, Lovilia; Mrs. Lillie Richmond, Melrose; James M. Day,
Belvidere, Neb.; Mrs. Gracie Robinson, Albia; Clarence Day, Lovilia; Mrs. Pearl
Phipps, Melrose; and Mrs. Mable Funk, Brush, Colo.
He was converted in a revival meeting about one year ago which was held at U.B.
Chapel and united with the Church, and since that time has been a faithful
member, and he died trusting in his Savior whom he loved.
In the passing of Mr. Day, the community looses one of it's best citizens, a
man well and favorably known by all.
Funeral services were held at the Lovilia M.E. church, Tuesday, Dec. 14, at
eleven o'clock, being conducted by Rev. E.E. Bosley, assisted by Rev. J.O.
Evitts.
Burial was made in Woodland cemetery.
**newspaper error - there were 5 daughters and 3 sons**
