Death Calls Three - Two Residents of
County and One Former Citizen
of Glenwood
Mrs. H. R. Lemonds
Mrs. Eliza Jane Lemonds was born in Jennings County, Indiana, June 7, 1844, and
died Sunday night, June 6.
She came to Monroe County, Iowa, in October 1852. May 21, 1865 she was united
in marriage to Hiram R. Lemonds. They moved to Malvern, Iowa, about 37 years
ago, and have lived in Mills County ever since. Last October they made their
residence in Strahan.
Eleven children were born to them - six boys and five girls - two boys dying in
infancy. Those living are E.A. Lemonds, Hastings; Mrs. B.R. Kelley, Hastings;
Mrs. Fred Bishop, Malvern; Mrs. Manford Linville of Glenwood; J.M. Lemonds,
Sioux falls, South Dakota; A.P. Lemonds, Hawarden, Iowa; Mrs. S.E. Chambers,
Malvern; Mrs. B.A. Reynolds, Hastings; and C.E. Lemonds, Malvern. She leaves
two brothers - Alexander Day of Champion, Neb.; and S.W. Day of Melrose, Iowa;
besides 35 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The funeral services were held at the home Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.,
conducted by the Rev. Peter Jacobs, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church at
Randolph. Interment was in the Malvern cemetery.
Besides the children, those in attendance at the funeral from a distance were -
S.W. Day of Melrose, Iowa; J.F. Day of Lovilla, Iowa; and the Rev. S.S. Lemonds
of Ord, Neb.
