Vicky - Yes we are 3rd cousins.
Manny was Charles nick name. I'm not sure where it came from. And I don't remember if he was married at anytime.
Gerber is Mable May's married name, she was married to a man named Fred Gerber, who actually bought the plots at the cemetery that some of these family members are buried in. (Glenwood)
Hazel's married names were Cochran and Dawkins. She had one son named Charles born under the Cochran name.
Laverl's nick name was Verl. and you are right about the married names. Hollaway and Beatty. Verl had one son, Roy born under the last name Hollaway. I don't think she was married under that name. (that's another story) but she was married to Frank Beatty for moons.
Stella was married to Art Case for awhile they adopted one child Art Jr. I remember when I was little Art use to go to Arabia to work in the oil fields. She divorced him and married Don King who is still alive. He was 20 some years younger then her. Her son Art nicknamed Oscie lives in Tn.
You are correct on the dates.
Now Georgia known as Georgie. I don't know where the middle name came from. But I can tell you that my grandma (Maxine Pearl Travis) told me that every name was after someone else. I believe Georgie died when she was just a few weeks old.
Anthony's nick name was Babe. she was a female-funny name for a woman.
She had 3 kids by 3 different men. Don Washeleski who changed his last name to Washel when he left home and never returned. William Sheets who died at the age of 14 from a gunshot wound to the stomach. He accidentally shot himself while taking a shotgun out of a truck, while hunting. Jean married name Jinks just passed away about a year ago, In Council Bluffs.
James Walter died young from small pox. If I remember correct he was 7 or 8.
....................... James and Delia divorced or for some reason weren't together when James died. I remember grandma telling us about a step dad named Sy West. I don't know if Sy is short for something or if it was really Sy. I think they were in Missouri during the early days you mentioned.
............................. We also have a cousin named Richard who lives in Omaha. I'm not sure who his mother is. His last name is Vanderpool. He was working at one of the mortuaries as an assistant. He is around 65 or so. Nice soft spoken tall man. From what I understand from him. Someone from the Vanderpool's kept the farm in Bently Iowa. That belonged to Roxie. I am familiar with bently, as my husband comes from there. (small world) Ok, that's enough. This will end up a novel before long.
Let's keep in touch Marcie (short for Marclyn)"

RITES HELD FOR CHICAGOAN (sic)
Former Resident Died Monday, Dec. 18
Funeral services were held from the Mansfield Funeral home Thursday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. for Louis Wesley Thomas, who formerly was a resident of Mal- *____________________* charge of the services and interment was made in the Malvern cemetery. Vocal music was furnished by Lloyd Short who was accompanied by Mrs. Short.
The following obituary was read:
"The lights are all out in the mansion of clay;
The curtains are drawn, for the dweller's away;
He silently slipped o'er the threshold by night
To make his abode in the City of Light."
Louis Wesley, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Thomas, was born in Malvern, Ia., June 8, 1888 and died in the Veterans' hospital in Chicago, Ill., Dec. 18, 1939, having lived 51 years, six months and 10 days. A veteran of the World war he served in the U. S. Navy the entire duration of the war. Since that time he had been employed in various avenues of service in Kansas City, Council Bluffs and in Chicago. For several years he had been in the employe (sic) of the New York Central Railway in Chicago.
His father died in 1916. Besides his aged mother, who still lives in the old home in Malvern, he is survived by his wife Helga; one son, Otis; a foster son, Bruce Stephens; a brother, Harry Thomas, of Malvern; a sister, Mrs. Ada Townsend,** of Lincoln, Neb.; and three grandchildren. Besides the relatives named, Louis has many more relatives who, with his near kin-folk and a host of his intimate friends; will miss his counsel, fellowship and comradeship in life's activities.
Thus briefly we sketch a life that was full of service, rich with friendships, beloved in a large family circle, loyal to his country and a good citizen.
MY NOTE: * fold in page precludes me from reading this part.

Jones - 1886-1967 - son of B. F. Jones and Elenor Gibson Jones. He was born at Malvern, Iowa and came to Neb. as a young man." "Graduated High School in Malvern, Iowa. Came to Nebraska with sister, Gladys, when he was a young man. (their father, Benjamin Franklin Jones left and went to Washington state for a while.) My dad worked for neighbors of Michael Farrell for a while and then married Farrell's daughter Nellie Bell. His sister, Gladys Jones lived with them for a while." (orally from LEJWH - January 2000)
I remember him as a kind and gentle man who read pulp Westerns, listened to radio programs and loved to tell me stories about the family - where they came from and what happened to them. There is an element of truth in the stories he told me when you consider what may or may not have happened to the relatives of Michael Farrell and Laura Jane House. Grandpa Alfred Jones could have been telling me about the the Farrell's/House's and in my tender youth (about 5) I didn't understand and thought he was speaking of himself & My Great Aunt Glady's. One of the reasons for this research is to determine the origins of this story and to find out who Nellie Bell (Farrell) Jones' family were as I do not EVER recall meeting or hearing about any of them. He also used to tell me there were relatives in the Civil War and in the Revolutionary War --- research will tell. :o) VLWW

When three weeks of age Nellie came to Nebraska in a covered wagon. Her parents settled on Clear Creak, homesteaded and are buried in the Clear Creek cemetery. There is a cemetery and a church there. My grandfather built a sod house for them to live in. Mom went to a one room school house not far from the house. The Christian Church was also close by and her mother (my grandmother) was very active in it. My mom and dad met while he was working for a neighbor of my grandfather. They married young. (Verbal conversation with my mother ((Laura Eleanor Jones Williams Hockman)). - Vicky Lou Williams Winfield - summer 1999.
She was a housewife, farm-wife, Mother and Grand-mother. Nellie was also an avid gardner. I can remember her giving me my first tea and/or coffee - always with lots of sugar and more milk than either tea or coffee. I always found her loving and caring. Loved to go visit her. HOUSE FAMILY HISTORY
Article sent to me by Gary Herrington August 2002
No idea where it originated. (vlww)Bradford "Grandpa" House, whose ancestors came from England and Scotland, was born in New York State August 8, 1827. November 16, 1851 he was married to Sarah McGinnis in Joe Davis Co., Illinois. She was the daughter of Francis and Jane McGinnis and was born October 10, 1834, their descendants (sic) [might mean ancestors] were from Ireland. They lived their early married life in Illinois where all of their children were born. "Grandpa" House preceded his family to Custer County, Nebraska to homestead, but he soon returned to Adrain Co., Missouri, where the family had lived for some time, to bring his family to Nebraska in 1886. When they first moved into Ansley they lived directly north of the Christian Church. They later purchased an acreage in north Ansley. The house still stands at the end of the street which leads north from the Lumber Yard. In their declining years they moved to the farm home of their daughter, Della McGowan and family. A comfortable two room house was built for them in the yard next to the McGowan home, which was two miles north of Ansley. They resided there until their deaths. Grandma died January 19, 1915 and Grandpa March 26, 1916. Both were buried in the Ansley Cemetery. They were the parents of the following children.
LAURA (1852-1930) married Mike Farrell in the early 1870's. She died at her home near Westerville and was buried in the Liberty Cemetery northeast of Ansley. They were the parents of: [1] Mae (Mrs. Edgar Graham) they lived in Ansley Community where their four children, Irma, Norman, Irene and Mildred were born. Later they moved to a farm a few miles northeast of Broken Bow. [2] Bert F. (1875-1957) married Nellie Potts in 1900. They had a daughter, Clatilla, Mrs. Paul Siegel, who resides in Central City, Nebraska. Bert worked many years for the Brown Fruit Co. Both Bert and Nellie are buried at Central City, Nebraska. [3] Sadie (1877-1962) married Bert Marsh of Westerville Community. They were blessed with three children: Cecil (who is deceased, Floreine (Mrs. John Campbell) and Irma (Mrs. Charles Bensen) who both live in Laramie, Wyoming. [4] Ervin "Ervie" (1880-1965) married Lizzie Mytton of rural Ansley. A son, Leo, was born to them. [5] Nellie (1884-1920's?) (sic) [should be 1884-1961] married Alfred Jones in 1904. Their children were Melvin (who died in infancy), Ruby (Mrs. David Anderson), Merle (deceased in 1963), Faye (Mrs. Charles Boyd) and Laura Eleanor (sic) [should be Elenor] (Mrs. Loren Williams. [6] Levert Farrell 1885, who makes his home in an Army Home in South Dakota. [7] Laura "Totie" (1889-1918) married Lee Woodruff. They lived in Lee Park near the Knight School. Their children were: Eugene, Helen, Byrl, Emma Mae, Esther and Leona. ................"
MY NOTE: Nellie Belle Farrell Jones did NOT die until 16 January 1961. (her granddaughter - vlww)
