When they reached a certain age we took them out to Aunt Ruby & Uncle Dave's farm so they could finish raising them. The next thing I remember is sitting at Aunt Ruby's table for a HUGE feast - you guessed it - fryed chicken!

Given to me by my mother (Laura Eleanor Jones Williams Hockman) vlww 9 Jan 2000Uncle Dave was always a favorite Uncle to me. Our youngest son, Mickey David Winfield, is named after him. As long as I live I'll never forget the farm in Nebraska. The grain storage shed, the pigs and Uncle Dave (I was 5) giving me a penny for each tail I could curl. Once Uncle Dave and Aunt Ruby moved to Missouri we didn't get to see much of them. Did get to spend one Thanksgiving with them - I was a freshman in college - Mother drove there from Nebraska and I flew in from Oklahoma. Uncle Dave and Mother met me at the airport and drove me to the farm. Have a beautiful picture of both Aunt Ruby and Uncle Dave on their 50th Wedding Anniversary that Mother sent me. I highly prize it! VLWW February 2001.

MY NOTES - Family story is that Aunt Fay had a baby girl before Melvin was born. The child was either miscarried or died after Aunt Fay was scalded with water from a large pot falling off the stove. Aunt Fay's life and marriage were never the same after this. Need more information about this.
Carol W.L.G. left a note for me saying this accident happened to Aunt Fay "while she was yet in school and why she never gradudated. She did NOT return to school!?"

FREDERICK WILLIAM HOCKMAN
Clair L. Chism - Asst. State Registar.
Lincoln, Nebraska: July 21, 1952.A wonderful step-father and grand-father. Always there when he was needed - which seems to have been a lot in the past few years. A man who liked to laugh and joke. A 'jack of all trades' when it came to fixing things up. His favorite place first thing in the morning was the coffee shop (cafe) - down town Edgar. Loved listening to his stock reports and farm reports on radio. He loved the Nebraska Huskers. Farmer in Clay County, Nebraska (farm originally owned by his parents but he expanded it and made many improvements). Fred was a Fifty year member of the Lion's Club of Edgar, Nebraska. Elder of 1st Christian Church of Edger, Nebraska and the designer of the church building now there. Believe he is also a member of Ark Sar Ben in Omaha, Nebraska (2002).
