"Mary T. married Michael J. Higgins. Lieut. Higgins enlisted in the 3d Rhode Island Regiment Heavy Artillery, soon after the breaking out, of the Rebellion. Notwithstanding his youth, he filled with much honor and credit, the positions of Private, Corporal, Sergeant, and first and second Lieutenant. He was in command for some time at Fort Pulaski, Tibce and Morris Islands, filling for more than six months the position of Post Adjutant.
