Many people refer to the book of Ephesians for it's advice about marriage. It is written that a wife should be submissive to her husband, that she should respect him, and that he is the spiritual leader of the household.(Ephesians 22-33). All this is true. However, many people simply leave it at that, and do not read the rest of the chapter or the other references to marriage in the Bible. For instance, it is written in Ephesians 25 "...Husbands love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her..." Love them as much as Christ loved the church, that's a lotta love! :) It continues on to say in Ephesians 28 "So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself." In the book of Colossians, chapter 3,verses 18-21, it offers more advice on family life:
"Wives,be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord***(see below). Husbands love your wives, and do not be embittered against them. Children be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, do not exasperate your children, that they may not lose heart." (It's important to note that wives are only to submit to their husbands "as is fitting in the Lord", meaning that a wife must never sin to please her husband.)
