Have you ever avoided telling someone that you're a Christian so that they will like you? Where do we get this idea that everyone is supposed to like us? Jesus tells us:
"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."
John 15:18-19
We have seen this to be true in the case of the apostle Paul. He was in and out of jail all his life being persecuted for his faith. So why can't we just have the guts to declare Christ to our families, friends, and co-workers? God has commanded us to "go forth and spread the Word", not to "go forth and make friends" !
In our lives, we find it very easy to share Christ with those we know well, such as our close family members. We are secure in their love, and we know they will not reject us. But this is the wrong attitude!!! We must come to realize that this is a serious issue that we must take to the Lord in prayer. We must pray for the boldness and courageousness that Paul had. We must also pray that God will take away our selfish desire to be accepted and liked. After all, I know that I would rather be loved by Christ, than by the world, wouldn't you?! Let's pray for eachother that we may be true friends.....friends of Christ.
