"'Night Kait." I say, climbing into bed.
"'Night." Kait's voice was flat.
"Tay, are you sleeping?" No response. "I guess so."
"Tay, are you up?" I ask through the wall the next morning.
"Yep, have been for a while."
"Doing what?"
"Thinking."
"'Bout what?"
"Everything."
"Oh. You fell asleep right away last night before we had a chance to talk."
"I was tired."
"What are you doing today?"
"Practice, then hanging out. Do you wanna swim or something tonight? It's really hot
out."
"Sure. I should probably get ready now. Bye!"
"Come and get me when you're ready. I'll walk with you if you want."
"Of course. Why wouldn't I want to walk with you?"
"I dunno."
"Does it have anything to do with last night?"
"Maybe."
"Don't worry. I liked the kiss. If you wouldn't have kissed me, I would have kissed
you." I end the conversation there and get my shorts, a shirt and a jacket. I shower and blow-
dry my hair. I do my make-up and grab my purse. "Bye, I'll see ya in a bit!" I call to Kait,
who's still in her bed reading.
"Bye," she says. She motions for me to come to where she's laying. I walk over and she
says quieter, "I wish Zac would ask me out."
"Give him time. He will. Why don't YOU ask HIM?"
"I will, maybe, later. No, not yet." I shake my head at her and walk out the door.
