K-LOB 2004 (NWR report by Dave Thomson) The K-LOB weekend went quite well. I had not been to KLOB since 1999!!!. That was the first ever launch of my IRIS on 6 G's and a core J. Not all went to plan that day! This year myself and Sean had planned to do our level 3 flights on Hypertek M motors. My rocket was a two thirds scale IRIS (8 inch diameter). Seans was a scale Phoenix (10inch diameter). We ahd worked on these rockets for over a year (on and off) and had originally planned to fly them at UKRA2004, but I was away working in Austrailia at that time so we decided to wait until KLOB. In the end the weather got the better of us. Not only that but we began to worry if the M had enough 'kick' off the pad. One of the Dutch crew had launch earlier that day and although the motor was impressive with a very long burn, the motor did not have that punch such as the J570!  Sean Launched his faithful Optima on a K660 54mm, I launched Davids Wizard on an I211W and Andy launched his BBX on an I motor. We did not fly much else and spent most of the time prepping for flight of the level 3's (that did not go). The Mars crew did a nice flight on an I and two H outboard motors that ejected at burnout. We managed to 'steal' thier video downlink for this too!. I did a stint of model and HPR safety officer for a change. My son, David, and I stayed in the local travel lodge and wnet back to Pete's farm for later on the first night to watch the fireworks. This was a fantastic display!!
