Journey for peace
Peace activists leave the U.N. Building in New York Sunday
to begin their "Global Peace Walk" to San Francisco. The
march is in honor of the United Nations' 50th anniversary.

Description of photo: With the UN Building in the background
a city block behind them the few dozen walkers are lead by
Rainbow Family Tribe indigenous Yaqui Lakota spiritual
practitioner Felipe Chavez carrying an eagle feather in
his right hand, accompanied by indigenous Chumash spiritual
practitioner Wonono Rubio carrying a medicine staff while
beating on a drum slung in front of him, followed by the
Global Peace Walk banner, "United Nations 50th Anniversary
Global Peace Walk 1995, New York City January 15, San Jose CA
June 14, San Francisco June 26, for "Global Peace Now!" and a
"Spiritually United Nations". Behind the banner are the bulk
of the walkers surrounding and following the walk initiator
Rev. Yusen Yamato beating on the Tenku Drum while chanting
the Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo medicine word prayer mantra
for peace in our times from the land of the origin of the sun
(Nippon) previously known as the country of Great Harmony
(Yamato). Years after this walk Rubio became the Chairman
of the Coastal Band of the Chumash Nation in Santa Barbara.
