STATE OF KANSAS

PROCLAMATION
BY THE
GOVERNOR


TO THE PEOPLE OF KANSAS, GREETINGS:

WHEREAS, The history of our world is awash with incidents of people and nations using violence as their first method to resolve disputes; and

WHEREAS, As children of an interdependent world, we must always strive to settle our differences without resorting to violence as a primary option; and

WHEREAS, The United Nations 50th Anniversary Global Peace Walk began in New York City on January 15, 1995, and arrived in Leavenworth, Kansas, March 28, 1995; and

WHEREAS, The Walk represents people from around the world gathering together to spread the message "Global Peace Now," to develop consciousness, to bring back knowledge; and

WHEREAS, The Walk coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, and the U.N.'s declaration of the Decade of the Indigenous People; and

WHEREAS, It is the hope of all peoples that the United Nations help create true global peace;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BILL GRAVES, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF KANSAS, do hereby welcome the


United Nations 50th Anniversary Global Peace Walk

in Kansas.
