1971 Chevy Impala 4 Door
This car had quite a history. It came all the way from Pennsylvania. Tim Smith owned it for over a year
but didn't want to derby it as it wasn't his "year" of favourites. He prefers the 74-76 GMs instead. I purchased the car
for much more than I ever spent on any car. I purchased it for $500.00. The 350ci that was in it had low mileage so I sold
the motor for $300.00. So really, the car cost me $200.00. I was again allowed to use Tim's 327ci engine. This car was decently clean! No rust holes in the floor or trunk, but the rockers were starting to go. I ran this car in the 1995 Belleville Derby,
and got second in my heat, fifth place in the feature. Because the top 3 cars had already qualified for the Belleville Regional Derby, I
was entitled to be in the race! (you had to finish 3rd or better to be allowed in). So, I took it to the Regional race in Belleville and
raced against the toughest drivers in my area. I ended up getting the side doors pushed in, folding the bench seat in half and tearing the rear axle out of the car. I got the rear end changed, and ran the car again the next year
in the 1996 Belleville Derby. I got second in my heat and fifth again in the feature. This was the last derby for this car. After 3 HARD races, it was finally junk.
BEFORE
AFTER
This was after the first derby. I finally had
taken the time to convert the front bumper from a 1971 to a 1976 (Much
stronger!)
Still In Great Shape!
