Still needings number, rollsign and a farebox (among other things) before being ready to go into service, an brand-new 30-foot long Orion I sits on the north side of Hillcrest on Friday September 21st, 1982 at approximately the same location as Gray Coach Lines service truck 174 was photographed over half a century earlier.

By the time the TTC's second order of OBI 01.501s had arrived around Labour Day 1982, the Orion Is were well-established as regulars on such lightly-travelled routes as 82 ROSEDALE. 8734 waits at the bus platform at Rosedale Station for its driver to return, while the reason for the photographer being there can just be made out in the reflection in the side windows: the TTS excursion with Flyer 8479 on Saturday April 9th, 1983.

Surprisingly, several of the second group of 30-foot Orions were regularly used on the 7E branch (from Wilson Station to St. Clair West Station) of the heavy BATHURST route. In service for less than a month on Friday September 21st, 1982, OBI 01.501 8735 is seen here negotiating construction southbound on Bathurst Street at Avenal, a few block south of Eglinton.

Newer than brand-new, this photo of builder's number 0515 (TTC 8737) under construction at Ontario Bus Industries' Mississauga plant was taken during a Toronto Transportation Society tour on the evening of Monday July 5th, 1982.
