GM "New Look" Photos

General Motors introduced the "new look" era in 1959 with its model TDH-5301. However, the GM "fishbowl" was not the only 1960s new look bus. Both Western Flyer and Flxible also had similar looking buses (although the only Canadian-built examples of the latter were in Montréal). The contemporary Canadian Car & Foundry TD-43 and TD-51 models should also be in the same category, even though they were ahead of their time in having rectangular rather than slanted windows (except for one bus built for Murray Hill).

The Toronto Transit Commission has operated a grand total of 2,148 "new look" buses. This total includes demonstrators and leased buses, but excludes conversions and vehicles owned by Gray Coach or GO Transit.
