  • Alyson Hannigan interview in Jump magazine
    "You Goal, Girl"
    By Maria Neuman

Just because you're used to seeing her as Buffy's sidekick, that doesn't mean Alyson Hannigan can't kick it with the best of them. Offscreen, she's an awesome athlete who'd rather run the soccer field than cruise the mall.

If you've ever thought your life was less than lovely because you're not part of the popular crowd or because you prefer megabytes to makeup, just look to Alyson Hannigan for some inspiration. She's been making a living playing the eccentric nerd, Willow, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the past three years and loving it. "I'd much rather play all the quirky, less popular characters because i'm kind of quirky myself," says the 25-year-old actress. In fact, Alyson is so in touch with her inner geek that when she auditioned for her new flick, East Great Falls High, she was offered the part of 'a cool, normal girl' but instead opted to play the resident marching band nerd. "The movie is about four guys trying to lose their virginity before prom night ends, and my character winds up at the dance as one of their dates." So, did Alyson take inspiration from her own high school experiences to get in the mood? "Well, I did go to my prom, but I didn't have a very good time," she says. "In fact, back then I wasn't very happy or popular, and I felt like I never fit in. I was so glad when the whole thing was over."

One place Alyson has definitely found a home away from home is the Buffy set, "After all these years togeather, we've become like family," says the girl who got bitten by the acting bug watching Shirley Temple movies. "I can't even pick a favorite co-star anymore because that would be like choosing a favorite brother or sister, which is impossible." Well, the though of being related to Seth
You gotta love a girl who doesn't hang her self-esteem on whether or not her lip gloss matches her sweather. Nope, Alyson

  • A Xander book
A new book will be out this Spring.
The Xander Years formerly titled the Xander Files, which FOX didn't like, or their choice of the second title "Xander The Great"
    Written by Keith R.A. DeCandido.
Here's the blurb for the book: Xander had known Cordelia since they were both five years old, and it had been hate at first sight. Cordy had said something mean to Willow--he didn't even remember what--and Xander had retaliated in true five-year-old fashion by dumping a bowl of ice cream on her head. She cried, Xander got in trouble, and the tone for their relationship had been set. Look for it in stores in February 1999."

  • Happy Birthday to Here is an artical from the WGN newsletter.
  • A HOWLING BIRTHDAY
    -------------------
Seth Green, also known as the endearing werewolf Oz on "Buffy," turns 25 this month. The big day is February 8! That makes an Aquarius. His horoscope describes him as realistic, practical, determined, persistent and faithful, but also melancholic, despondent, retiring, stubborn, aggressive or rebellious when restricted (like when he's locked in a cage after the sun goes down?). Seth shares his celebrity birthday status in February with the likes of Brandy and Jennifer Love Hewitt, who'll both turn 20 this month.

'WGN' to drop entire 'WB' line-up A good number of cable TV viewers may be losing their current means of watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, according to Variety. The trade reports that starting in fall 1999, the WGN Superstation cable network will remove the entire WB programming line-up and replace those shows with exclusive programs they acquired, reruns and other syndicated properties.

  • 'The Offspring' has a thing for 'Buffy' Cast Music group 'The Offspring' knows a hot thing when they see one. Apparently, they have their hearts set on nailing one of the stars from 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' for the leading role in one of their videos. First, Seth Green was offered the part in 'Pretty Fly for a White Guy', but had to turn it down due to work on 'The Family Guy'. (Which, I forgot to post, premiered after the SuperBowl this past Sunday) Now, Sarah Michelle Gellar has turned down the opportunity to be in the Offspring's latest video, 'Get a Job', citing that she also was to busy.

    • Fox could steal "Buffy": 20th Century Fox, the company which produces "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer," may sell the show to sister studio Fox if the WB refuses to step up to "fair market value." This would be a first for the industry, because no studio has ever taken a hit show from one network to another. Canceled programs have sometimes appeared elsewhere--for example, CBS' "JAG" and the WB's "For Your Love," both originally on NBC. The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association Tour this week.
