Stuffing
One of the most important things I have learned from Christmas dinners, is that you always have something that you don't like there. I have a few things that I don't like. Stuffing is definately one of them! I guess I am a picky eater. LOL Just tell yourself you don't have to eat anything you don't like unless you are a kid!! LOL
You can make your stuffing the night before you cook your turkey so that it can cool down in the refrigerator all night if you like to cook it in your turkey. ** Please see note at the end of this page regarding Hot Stuffing in a Raw Turkey.
Anyway, you will need:
a pound or 450 grams of bread, pieces, slices, stale, it doesn't matter
an onion or two
2 or 3 stalks of celery
salt
pepper
poultry seasoning
about 1/4 cup of melted butter or margarine
a cup or two of hot water
Put your bread in a very large bowl. I buy bags of bread at the bakery section of loblaws that are specifically for stuffing and they have a large variety of breads in them. Cut your onions and celery quite small and add it to your bread. Add your salt, pepper, and about a teaspoon of poultry seasoning. Some people add an egg, but I don't.
Add your margarine to your bread mixture, and then add enough hot water to moisten the whole mixture and make it all stick together. I then put my stuffing in the refrigerator so that I can put it in the turkey the next morning to cook it all together.
** I do NOT recommend putting hot stuffing into a raw turkey just prior to cooking, and neither does anybody else I know! :) It is a cause of food poisoning. You need to be careful with turkeys.
Have a Safe and Happy Holiday!!
