Truth Trek... pg 4
Scene 7
Tess watched, rather, she scrutinized Rich Stevens as he fumbled with the keys to his hotel room. His obligations for the day must be over, she thought to herself. She felt indignation rising up within her, growing and spreading like a brush fire.
"Well, Mr. Stevens," she said smugly. "I guess you've had enough worship for one day. It's time you found out who's really on the throne!"
Tess walked towards the door and kept going, right on through to the other side where Rich Stevens thought he was finally alone. He pulled off his Starfleet shirt and threw it on the bed. He looked like a regular guy now in his white undershirt, certainly not an object of worship. "Hmmm," Tess mumbled to herself. "Not much of a god, are you?"
Rich opened the nightstand drawer and rummaged through it. He found the book he was looking for and lay back on the bed to read. He read aloud and with every word, Tess' eyes and heart grew wider.
"Let love be your only debt! If you love others, you have done all that the law demands."
"He's reading God's Word," Tess said, her jaw dropping.
"...all of these are summed up in the command that says, "Love others as much as you love yourself. No one who loves others will harm them. So love is all that the law demands."
Tess smiled as the light of the scriptures filled the room. It was a joy to hear these words of life.
Suddenly, she had a revelation, a pang of sorrow hitting her heart like a pin, piercing her harsh attitude. "Father," she prayed. "I need forgiveness for my callousness towards this young man. I thought he was distracting worship away from you, yet here he is, speaking your word with as much passion as he spoke to the crowds earlier. Please, Heavenly Father, if You will allow it, give me words of life and hope and comfort for this little lamb."
"God," Rich prayed. "Help me to love these people. Help me to see them the way you do. I can't do anything without you and I don't even know if I'm making a difference."
"You are making a difference," said a voice straight out of a Star Trek episode. It was soft, rich and sounded celestial.
"Who?" Rich started, the Bible flying out of his hands onto the bed. "Who are you?" He gazed at the glowing form of Tess, no longer in Klingon garb, standing by his bed emanating the glory of God.
"My name is Tess. I am an angel, Mr. Stevens, sent by God to bring you good news. He loves you. You have a heart that longs for God and longs to see His light shine on the earth. God is pleased with that."
Rich Stevens had seen countless special effects in his day, acted in whimsical, fantasy stories about flying spaceships and strange alien beings. None of it could have prepared him for this. If this was only a taste of God's glory, what must Heaven be like?
"Why?" he asked. "Why would God send me an angel?"
Tess smiled. She couldn't even remember what it was like being upset with this precious man. "Why wouldn't God send you an angel?" she asked. "God doesn't play favourites, you know. He loves all of His children equally."
Now it was Rich's turn to smile. A handsome smile, Tess noted. "I know that in my head," he said. "Still, sometimes it's hard to know it down here." He pointed to his heart.
"I've seen that problem many times among you humans," Tess replied. "But, it doesn't change the way God loves you."
Rich felt strange talking face to face with an angel as if she were a fishing buddy, but the angel didn't seem to mind. "You probably wonder why I'm working in Star Trek," he said. "I don't always agree with the story lines. They don't acknowledge God much, but, but they do advocate unity between races and genders."
"You don't have to justify yourself to me," Tess assured him. "God wants us all to bloom where we're planted. You do that. You lead by example, not just by yelling out what people should and shouldn't do. That's the best way of all to lead people right to their Father's waiting arms."
Tess' words were like water to Rich's thirsty soul. Words of acceptance, words of affirmation, words of life flooded his being with peace and joy beyond what he'd ever known. He laughed. "I love God. Sometimes I wish I could scream "God loves you" at the top of my lungs to everyone around me, but.. But, I guess they wouldn't listen, would they?"
"Don't be weary in well doing," Tess said, quoting one of his favourite scriptures. "No one plants seeds and reaps a harvest all in one day. Just keep on keepin' on and let God take care of the rest."
"Thanks, Tess. This isn't how I imagined an angel visitation would be, but, it's wonderful just the same."
Scene 8
"I couldn't find him anywhere," a frustrated Monica said to her colleague, also known as the Angel of Death. "Andrew, why doesn't God just tell me where he is?"
Andrew put his arm around her shoulder to comfort her. "God gives us..."
"What we need when we need it." Monica finished the familiar phrase. "Yes, I know, but, I can't help thinking that Angus is in serious danger. Maybe... maybe he's been picked up by police... or worse."
"I'm sure he'll turn up," Andrew assured her. "There has to be a reason why God isn't telling you where he is."
"I guess," she agreed, reluctantly. "So what do I do in the meantime? Just stand here and twiddle my thumbs?"
"Gotcha!" Angus yelled and suddenly, Andrew found himself in the surprisingly iron grip of Angus McCloud. Angus' arms were wrapped around him tightly, pinning his arms down and rendering him temporarily helpless.
"Angus!" Monica scolded, not sure if this was serious or comical. "What are you doing?"
Andrew struggled to free himself. It surprised him to find out he could do nothing to get out of Angus' grip. God must want him to stay there for the time being.
"I caught him, Monica. I caught the alien! I'm gonna turn him in to the FBI."
Monica rolled her eyes. "You'll do no such thing! Let Andrew go this minute!"
"Uh-uh!" Angus shook his head. "Not this time. This is the only way I can prove my story. I've been waiting a long time for this. Now we meet, Mr. Alien. I have a few questions for you."
Angus started walking with Andrew in his grip. He was heading towards the street and a waiting taxi cab. This was awkward. Andrew tried to use his God-given power to just disappear, but nothing happened. Obviously, the moment of truth had come.
