Cabot 500: Celebrating Genocide?

The arrival of John Cabot in the "New Found Land" 500 years ago is being celebrated by the press, government, and even the Queen. But is this "discovery" really something to celebrate?

For Native people living in what is today Newfoundland this event was a disaster. The Beothuk people were completely wiped out by war, disease and the active genocide brought about by the European's arrival.

For Natives in Canada, Cabot's trail has been one of death, destruction, genocide and oppression. Ending today with Native people in Apartheid type "reserves".

The official Cabot website calls for "500 more years". But 500 more years of what??

Instead of Cabot, let's remember Wounded Knee, Oka, Leonard Peltier, [Gustafsen Lake], etc

Fuck Cabot!
