This line of this song, and the entire song itself came out of the terrible ice storm which hit eastern Ontario and Quebec in January of 1998. When the band returned home for the holidays in 1997, they got stuck there because of the worst ice storm in decades. This song came out of the fact that the band, like others living there went days, or even weeks without power and heat. When the Hip got back into the studio, this song was put on to tape.

The ice storm caused an estimated 2 billion dollars worth of damage. The storm was over in a few days, but the clean up took about two months. It was a very quick rebuilding process, mainly because all of Canada got together to help our victims.
