Flying Bridges!!

Yes - OK - I admit it - what with Bridge Layers - Floating Bridges and now Flying Bridges you could say that I have gone slightly mad!

Here's the idea - the bridge layers detailed elsewhere on the site are great fun - accessing areas which would otherwise be unobtainable and bringing new dimensions to the game of Epic 40K. However - they had the habbit of being blown to bits before they ever got anywhere! How to solve this? My normal answer to a gaming problem came to mind THUNDERHAWKS!! (I play mainly Imperials). How about making it possible fore Flyers to carry bridges slung under their cargo bays? Here's what i came up with!

Setting the scene:

You are fighting over rugged terrain. Cliffs and crevasses fill the field of view. Your Space Marines have spent two turns advancing up the hill on your left flank, heading for what appears to be a dead end - an impassable crevasse separating the two halves of the hill. Your opponent is laughing his head off in the belief that you can only be advancing to your own demise.

As you start your next turn, you advance your forces right to the edge of the cliff. Your opponent is smiling like a Cheshire Cat thinking of all the destruction his artillery (placed on the opposite side of the hill) can cause to your Marines as they get themselves stuck into the dead end. It is at this point that he notices a subtly placed squadron of 5 Thunderhawk Gun-ships at the edge of the table - but thats nothing to worry him - they've had little effect in the previous turns anyhow. Then He notices the cargo - WORRY! The two central Gun-ships are carrying...............BRIDGES!!! They swoop over the battle field, drop their loads, the two un-laden ships offloading a hail of fire into his artillery for good measure and then soar off into low level Orbit once more. Your assault units sweep across the bridges, completely wiping the Ork defenders off the hill. Once laughing his head off, your opponent has now had it permanently removed!

Rules:

Bridges can be laid/carried by aircraft with a troop capacity of 4 or more.

Bridges laid as troops are on a transport mission.

Points cost for bridges carried on flyers is double their land based equivalent (see Bridges and Mine Layers page).

Bridges do NOT affect the flight path of flyers.

Rules other than these are the same as the land based bridges elsewhere on the site (see link below)
