Bonehead Ogryns, Heavy Ogryns, and Head Chruncherz
As I have detailed elsewhere on the site, much of the defending force on Chameleon V was made up of the brigades of Ogryns who had been sent to the Planet when it was colonised as a training outpost.
When the Horde of TuffSkull Rotglum first appeared on the horizon, Captain Birzcran realised that something had to be done to make the troops he had available to him into an effective fighting force. The first of the problems for him to overcome was the intelligence factor of his troops. What troops there were on the planet from the Adepts Medical corps were set the task of curing the defence's possibly terminal problem.
Boneheads are the Ogryns which have had their intelligence enhanced by the skilled surgeons of the Adepts Medical Corps up to the standard of an average Human. This sounds pathetic but has proven a great benefit for a force comprised largely of thick skulled Ogryns. They now take the lead of many of the Units in the force with what Humans there are training new boneheads and creating suitable defences for the Planet.
As the defenders prepared for the possibility of a mass invasion, they set about training the Ogryns to make tactical fighting units in their own right. Massed Ranks of 9 foot tall super Humans advancing straight at the enemy was a tactic - but not one which appealed to Cpt. Birzcran. Personally he initialised the creation of new weapons for the Ogryns, from what little the defenders had available to them on the Planet to work from. He organised the training of the Ogryns in the use of specific weapons - teaching groups in the art of hand to hand and others at the use of the new ranged weapons.
The first new detachment to be created was the troops who became known as Head Chruncherz. These were the Ogryns who had been trained for hand to hand combat. Standing around 9 feet tall, grappling chain-swords and axes, and charging at you with no remorse - these were truly devastating troops. The requirements were simple enough for the Ogryns to fulfil - "go over there and kill them green things". However, the Ogryns went berserk in combat - never pulling back or giving ground until they were near death - and then it would often be too late for them. But the wounds they inflicted on the enemy were immense - and thought to be worth the losses the tactic insured.
The other main new type of Ogryn Squad created was the Heavy Ogryns. These troops carried modified ripper guns - double barrel's, explosive shells, higher rate of fire were all added to various weapons. Whatever the humans could do to the crude killing devices but whilst still keeping them with only the one technical bit as far as the Ogryns were concerned - the trigger. What they succeeded in creating was a mighty unit indeed. With an array of weapons, simply due to the fact that no two of the modifications worked the same, The troops had the ability to pull the trigger and decimate enemies whether they be 20m or 200m away - it made no difference!
