The date is November 26, 1960. The time is 2:15 AM, a Saturday. The place is The Sudbury General Hospital, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Born to Edmond and Mariette Poirier is an 8 lb. 6 oz. bouncing baby boy. After careful deliberation the child is named, Joseph Yvon Claude Poirier, a French-Irish terror.
I was raised in the tiny mining communities of Levack and Lively, Ontario. Even at this age I was climbing and searching and generally into things that I aught naught to be. Shortly after this was taken I managed to jam my arm in the wringer mechanism of an old fashioned wringer washer machine. To do so, I had to climb up a wall and plug the machine in. No small feat as I was still two years old and the electrical outlet was about six feet off the ground. I bare the scars to this day!
As a child, my folks owned a beautiful cabin on the shores of Lake Ministic, a small crystal clear lake situated 30 miles northwest of Sudbury, Ontario. Every weekend and every summer vacation was spent there, a young boy's dream come true. Here I am with a 14 and a half pound Northern Pike that I caught using an eight pound test line. From waters that cold, this is a very big fish.
Well, here I am over half a life time later. I've learned a lot since being the little climber or proud fisherman. I have a child of my own to raise and it is my lifes work to do my best raising her. I hope she will grow up being as happy as I was. Wish us both luck!
Oh yah, I have a good job as well. I build trucks for Navistar at the Chatham, Ontario assembly plant. Check it out, you might find it as interesting as I do!
